Serious GPU issues, weird colored screens, bars, freezes and bsods, help!??!!!

Not even sure what's going on at this point....in the last 2 days i've had 4 bsods and at least 9 system lockups, 4 of which were in the last hour. The screen, while gaming (WoW or LoL both) will eithre go completely black or get vertical lines, either thick about 1 1/2" in darkish green / black or super thin, kind of an orange/brownish with a black background. Ctrl alt del somestimes fixes it, comes back out to login screen, i'll hit cancel and goes back to normal, otehr times, it's a full on forced reboot w/ the power button.

I have an msi r6970 lightning, i dont overclock it, it stays at 50c or cooler, the last few times it happened it was at 42c. i keep the fans at 100% b/c i was under the assumption this was an overheating issue, but i dont think that's the case here. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for it, without change. need to find the amd vision engine program and remove it as well....i just updated catalyst earlier today i belive it was...not sure if that's the issue, but i'd need to go back to an older version..

gpu clock = 940
memory clock = 1375
fan speed = 100%
power = 0% (havent added any, although did try that earlier, didnt seem to help)

ive had the card maybe 15 months, purchsed from a fellow ocn'er, so it should still be under warranty as he'd only had it like 6 months or so prior.....im just hoping somewhere in the vast array of experience and uber nerdage in here that someone will know what it is and what to do, as im frustrated as hell.

if anyone needs more info, let me know, i need to get this squashed and it doesnt look like buying a new card is an option for me.

So, hints, suggestions, tips, anything.....

thanks peeps

Should get an rma started with msi. Sounds like your card is living on borrowed time.

New info, maye this will help some...was able to write down the BSOD codes. Theyve been the same each time, so....huzzah for consistency in BSODs!!!!

0x000000F4
(theonly one ive been abel to get any info on so far, defined as "0x000000F4: CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION" and "One of the many processes or threads crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. As a result, the system can no longer function. Specific causes are many, and often best resolved by a careful history of the problem and the circumstances of the error message." none of which helps me any, but maybe someone out there might know...?

If this helps anyone....at the opposite end of the montior connections on the card, there's a row of led lights....all are green except one red. now, ive done some googling and am about to scoure this site, but so far in all the forums all ive been able to find is "i think it's a power related light, like it's not getting enough power", but have yet to confirm it, even at MSI's site....the manual (big shocker) has no mention of leds, nor does it seem anyone else does....ugh, pletty prease help? sad-smiley-002.gif

Do you have another rig you could test the card in? Not that your system should get close to 850w but pc parts aren't invincible, swap to another system could show if its the card or something else.

Google seems to be showing a lot of stop f4 errors are hard drive related. Id swap out parts if you have the option, and make sure to rule out the psu, memory, and a fresh install of windows may help too.

well....sadly, no, i dont have a 2nd rig to toss the gpu into. i put a new ssd in after having some boot failurs, "windows could not find boot path" or something similar, then when i'd check in the bios, the sdd was not listed in any of the priorities., nor was it an option to choose. new ssd resolved that issue. with memory so cheap right now, i'll probably just pick up a new set of sticks; been trying the windows memory diagnostic (unsure if that's the best one to use, but...) and it just hangs at 21%. i try to wait it out, at least 10 minutes, but it doesnt move to 22%.

atm, im tring to track down an 8 pin male to male pcie psu cable, but that's nearly impossible, they're all male to female despite it being the only way to connect a modular psu to a gpu, wth? im HOPING that if i can get rid of that evil lil red light (still unconfirmed as to its meaning), that the case will be solved. so, bad cable/cables or psu, memory, or gpu. im hoping it's just the cables. ***
