Looking to buy a laptop for gaming.

Hello, my friend is looking to buy a laptop for gaming. He already has a desktop so it doesn't have to be super powerful, he just wants something that he can take on holiday and around to peoples houses.

What is your maximum budget? - £700 (with a bit of leeway if it goes over the budget)

What country are you in? - UK

What will be the uses of this laptop? - Gaming, and general use.

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you? - Anything that's not a Dell or HP.

What screen size do you require? - Nothing under 15"

What screen resolution do you require? - No preference.

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay? - Nothing second hand.

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet) - Just a general battery life, but nothing that will run out quickly.

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings? - BF3, WoW, COD, CSS + some indie games.

What operating system do you need? (if any) - Windows 7 (No Windows 8)

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.) - No preference.

How much hard drive space do you need? - 500GB+

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.) - USB, Webcam, DVD tray.

I'm not sure where you would find this in the UK but I'm currently considering getting one of these for myself:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152370

It's right around the price that you listed and seems like it would be able to handle light gaming fairly well. I don't know anything about computer parts retailers in the UK so if you can find that model number from whatever stores you use I'm sure it would be similarly priced.

Can't seem to find it here in the UK. But the computer looks great apart from Windows 8.
He said he doesn't want a laptop with it as he has tried it and does not like it.

Nice big screen, fairly decent spec and fits all the requirements long as he can stretch another hundred quid for it.

the 650m is a Tad weak tbh though. For 870 Scan offer a laptop with a GTX 675m in it :/ but 700 will have laptops that are focused around the 650m/6630m/7630m

For £700 the dell outlet offers some nice laptops which will game, but you know..Dell is Dell.

Yeah i know what you mean, dells just break all the time and he doesn't want to deal with the hassle. He wants something reliable that wont break, so no HPs or Dells lol.

Looks like a good laptop, but Windows 8. And his budget wont stretch £800. £700 is already a push.

yeah but its just that price budget that restricts him to such lol. I have a Dell Vostro 3550 that i use for gaming, and works amazing, but..Its still a dell.

^ I7, HD 8730m( yea, the 7 series rebranded, lol) £599 with a 1600x900 screen. (New , not outlet). Take the extra 100 quid and get an SSD for it.

And you have yourself a Midrange gaming laptop.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-8730M.87149.0.html

Does fairly well

BF3 @ medium / CSS @ Max / Wow @high / Cod @ high.

There is not that much to suggest unfortunately, and i cant see that Dell being beaten, unless you surf HOTUKDEALS for a few days.

I wouldn't care much for max storage as you can easily get cheap externals. Some laptops will be SSD only and won't be above 500GB. Just my 2 cents.

Okay, looks like dell might be the only way to go on the budget frown.gif. But what types of GPUs are good to look for, and whats kind of mid range performance, low range, and high end performance. because i know it's different from desktop graphics card.
