new build? (coming from AM2+)

Thread Starter
Hello,

I'm looking to upgrade my computer. The main uses of my computer will be gaming, photoshop and (hoppefully) some 3d modelling. I'm on a budget of about 400~450 euros (I could maybe extend it somewhay); this is what my computer looks like currently:

CPU: Athlon II x3 445
MB: Biostar A785GE (AM2+)
3 gb of ddr2 RAM
GFX: Ati Radeon HD4850

I would guess that i should probably upgrade to an intel build and leave the graphics card as is. I am really curious for your opinions. I'm a bit out of touch with the recent hardware developments.

Thank you in advance

If you want to keep the budget low, you may also want to consider FM2 APU's. Will have 2 years socket support from AMD and you get a good CPU with decent graphics that can be Xfired. And they OC and handle high clocking memory so thats another bonus. Pluss you can go mid to high end GPU later if budget permits. Just my 2 cents.

If you can afford a 3570K, don't worry about the APU I guess tongue.gif

your mention of apu's has definitely sparked my interest though. i'm just a little worried from some reviews that they're sufficient for some gaming but not really built for more processor heavy applicaitons.

a 3570k would probably exceed my budget and i havent been able to find one in dutch online s tores; i've only seen some 3570s. i 'd probably be at about €400 from a cpu and mb already.

The 7870 XT is highly worth the price (it's the best value in GPU's right now XT means a 7950 GPU with disabled cores). thumb.gif

do you think that last setup could run on an Antec Basiq Power 500w (+3.3V@30A, +5V@30A, +12V1@18A, +12V2@18A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@2.5A)? that's the psu i currently have

otherwise i did not really consider the fx cards because i read of high power consumption.

but seeing as how it compares to the intel i3 cpus that fx4300 sounds pretty good. i really wish i could go for something like that a10 apu but i think i'd rather pay a little more than have below-average performance

thank you for your comments

I wouldn't worry about your PSU. It's fine for a single card build and overclocke CPU and GPU.
