Yall go nuts over a rumor. ITS A RUMOR..See what happens in 2 months before making a choice. If we dont hear nothing after april then start to worry until then relax

Did they not show spec's of the 7970 by the beginning of the new year last year? I would of thought we would of seen or heard about something by now. Should of had some kind of specs out by now for the 8970 if going by amd's past releases. Might be true, this delay. Hope not tho

20nm GPUs will be mass production ready sometime Q1 2014 and on store shelves by late Q2 2014, unless delays on nvidias/AMDs part.

Q2 2013 would be perfect time to release the 8xxx and 7xx because it would give a solid year for its time in the sun. Besides 8xxx was slated for Q4 2012 / early Q1 2013 and AMD held back on it just to clear up inventory. It seems utterly silly to delay 28nm parts til Q4 2013, it just makes absolutely no business sense. However, some people in this thread lack the said sense by taking this rumor seriously.

That's pretty optimistic, I'm thinking on shelves in Q4 2014. Process development being the limiting factor.

Well, that's according to TSMC. In most cases the delays are caused by AMD/Nvidia themselves because the yields aren't satisfactory for profit.

I guess we were looking at it in slightly different ways, I was thinking an AMD/Nvidia caused delay would be a design problem/delay. To me AMD/Nvidia not choosing to enter production because of the state of the process would be a process delay.

TSMC gave some guidance about 20nm during the most recent conference call. They said 20nms first two years would be 2014/2015 and that it would sell better than 28nm did in each of its first two years 2011/2012.

28nm started production in October '11 and we saw HD 7970 in January '12. I'm under the assumption that 20nm will beat 28nm in its first year by starting production sooner in the year(but not significantly, maybe several months), and beat 28nm in its second year by offering more wafer starts(possibly significantly more).

Highly doubt it will be easier because smaller process always results in much more complexity. It all depends how big the dies will be because the bigger they are, the worse yields get. It also depends how well equipped TSMC is for it ect, but that's just going too deep.

Point is, it seems silly to delay 28 refresh to Q4 of this year.
