modded skyrim, PC is now "out of memory" but Task manager says otherwise

Hi fellow OCN-ers.

bought Skyrim a few months ago and started playing it a week ago.

I have added a few mods to the game, mainly texture mods and realistic light mod as well as editing the .inf file for better and near real time shadows.

Basically, now my computer says that it is out of memory, even though the game is only using about 2.5-3gb ram at any given time.

However, I noticed this:

Whenever I would click a door or go into a cave and a new area would load, the yellow part of the memory usage "the changed part" would increase.

This would only go away if I Alt-Tabbed out and back into the game.

today it got to a point where windows explorer crashed twice in a row (managed to restart it once, but it crashed almost instantly) and I was wondering if anyone could help me identyfying the issue.

I am in the process of trying to disable any mods that I can, one at a time to try it, if anyone has any other suggestions, please comment below smile.gif

Thank you

This is a pretty common issue with the game. I've had it a few times. That being said I can't remember the fix exactly. I think I just tried a different driver and that worked for the most part. It's been awhile since I've played. The memory is probably vram, so check the usage on that. At 3GB you should be ok unless you went crazy with textures. Some people go on about how vram amount isn't important, well here it really is.

Disable aero as well. Just right click on the skyrim.exe (TESV.exe????) I can't remember the launchers name, go to compatibility tab, and check "disable desktop composition".

it might actually have been Vram now that I come to think of it.

Although, I had the page file set to 1024-2048MB and upped it to 2048-4096MB

I also disabled the unofficial skyrim patch. it stopped booting me to the Desktop after that (for now)

I guess I have too many textures enabled, guess my future GTX 780 will have to be a >4GB version tongue.gif
