Need a new receiver, need suggestions.

I bought a Onkyo HT-S770 about 10 years ago and the receiver finally died on me. I am in the market for a new one but want to stay under $200 if possible. I don't know a lot about home audio anymore and could use a push in the right direction picking a new one.

Thanks in advance! smile.gif

If you're interested on 2.0 or a 2.1 sound system, the amps/integrated amps/receivers from the "Silver Era". late '70s, are fantastic performers and very affordable.

I picked up a Pioneer SA-510 integrated and a TX-410 tuner in a garage sale for $25., they have served me well for the last few years.

Just upgraded to a Yamaha CA-1010, though something like that is probably more than you're looking for.

www.thevintageknob.org is a good place to get info on stuff you're thinking about buying.
So is http://www.hifiengine.com/, (registration is free)

I still have the 6.1 speakers from the Onkyo system, I just need a receiver to power them.

Go with another Onkyo.

My only problem with that is onkyo receivers are not cheap at all. I'd have to drop $300+ for a 7.1.

Although I did just find this -

They have several in the 200 range on amazon.

There is one for $200 that is right at 200 but is 5.1 so that is a downside if 7.1 really matters to you. However, there are few movies that have 7.1 on the disc so if you want to be true to the source then it wont matter to you most of the time. I personally like the effects added by the receiver when in 7ch Enhanced mode but many don't at the same time....

Some may suggest Harmon Kardon receivers but they lack adjustability at that price point that make me want to stay away from them entirely.

Denon also makes some in your price range as well that you may want to look at but Onkyo tends to offer better value.
