I'm still playing my original FF VII PC game ( not the new relaunch of it ).

Some games are just nice to keep playing, some wear off awfully quick. A lot these days are geared towards the online play and not really the single player aspect as well so there's usually more time spent in them.

Valve will just stop allowing steam in germany

The only reqson not being able to resale my games does not bother me, is because I usually pay the same I would have to rent a game twice from block buster as a kid for them lol. i rarely pay more than 15 dollars for a video game anymore thanks to constant sales letting me get under a year old games for 66 percent off these days.

Great thing about being human is that you can always stride for something better. And if you owned a large corporation your opinion would be different.

So there's a simple reason for why they would be forced to do it for free (assuming they lose the court case obviously). Every single company that wishes to do business in the EU has to adhere to EU laws for the products/services they sell in the EU. Just like every company has to adhere to US laws if they wish to do business in the US. Following those laws will always result in extra costs for the company but since the alternative is to stop doing business, it's obvious why companies do actually comply.

Actually, seeing that your opinion is that it's unfair to force valve to do this, would you also think that it's unfair to force say a Chinese company to do some amount of quality control so they don't sell something like toxic materials to the US. I mean that's the great thing about being human, just get a better job and better understanding of the product so you don't buy something toxic.

If you turn your argument around and basically say "why is it fair to make a new law and have an individual (or many individuals really) lose money over it?", it sounds absolutely crazy. That's just how laws work.

* Ignore the fact that it's technically beyond valve's power TO do this... this is entirely up to the publishers who put things on steam.*

Console gamers can trade their games in and get most of their case back after playing the game. So we should be able to on PC aswell.
As for Steam games, ive seen them for sale online and in pawn shops, they're of no use once activated so i don't imagine anybody who would buy them knowing that.

Since we use activation codes, Steam should make it once the game is activated elsewhere it becomes unusable on other accounts.

For publishers it's an extremely easy process, either allow steam to do it or not. After all steam does get all the licenses that they then sell.

So essentially if valve loses the case then the publishers can choose to leave their games on steam of withdraw them from it (EU version of course, nothing would happen elsewhere). The publishers are technically already forced to do it or stop doing business, this lawsuit is about valve not offering the system to do that.

That was kinda my point though, it's not really up to valve whether or not these games are tradable.
Valve can provide a means to do it, but it's not UP to them whether they are*

well as previously stated if publishers make trouble to steam EU will go after them. as a CEO of a publisher i would cooperate with steam because when EU gets angry they usually overreach, ou boy they will overreach so it will cost publishers in the end much much more. just look at the telecommunication companies and interbank fees of banks in eurozone. corporations cant bribe/lobby EU politicians like in US cause here its like 27 countries + EU HQ and thats like 5k+ politicians and 15k+ public officials to bribe/lobby, i mean its impossible to get anything done. just look at ACTA. also voting to eu parliament is kind of sketchy with just 20-25% of electorate actually casting the vote so you see the EU politicians do listen do people much more than local politicians who get to be elected with 55% vote

anyway once valve is forced to do it, the consumer protection organization will immediatly go after EAs origin and Ubisoft uplay, and then even after Apples itunes, since this court ruling can be stretched very wide. Actually in EU IP system the software is what is actually protected while you can download (not upload) audio and video for personal use, because everyone pays the fees from CD, DVD, printers, even harddrives since recently. Thats how it works in central and eastern europe, possible also in western europe.

so if software, which is totally protected against download for personal use, can be resold by decision of eu high court and even the french giant Ubisoft wasnt able to do anything about this with their influence, poor poor Apple i must say. yes apple might try to cut off french/germans wherever it will be first enforced, they already tried it once, but once this court ruling is copied in all other EU countries, they can leave entire EU, but that would mean like their stock going under 200 bucks

EDIT: i am also very surprised how many of you have a problem with consumer protection itself and are at side of corporations even if it makes absolutely no sense.

best
