Hello OCN,

This is my first build log here on the forums. I mostly created it to showcase my modest rig, dump high quality pictures of components, and boredom. rolleyes.gif My rig is currently out of commission due to what I believe to be a faulty power supply. I have no real way of testing my theory because I don't have a spare PSU laying around, but I'm almost certain that is the source of the problem. I've been without my rig since Christmas break and its been killing me. I decided to RMA my video card through Sapphire during the downtime and manage my cables before I install my power supply.

My rig started off as a budget build back in 2011, but since then I have gained more knowledge and have been slowly upgrading as my passion for computers continues to grow. I'm slowly working my way up but because money is scare, its taking awhile.

Hardware
CPU: AMD Phenom II 925
Motherboard: Asus M4A97 EVO (RMA'ing)
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 Ghz OC Edition
SSD: Intel x25-V (picked this up for super cheap from a friend)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB
PSU: Corsair CX600
Case: Fractal Design Define R4

FUTURE UPGRADES
-Seasonic PSU
-Intel 4770k
-waiting to see some LGA1150 mATX motherboards
-Larger SSD, not set on a brand just yet. Waiting to see what's available when I choose to upgrade.
-Silverstone TJ08-E, really love this case and the only reason I went with the R4 was because I had money to burn and my current mobo was full sized mATX.
-Sleeved cables, FD fan controller, new fans, etc..

Here are some progression shots.

Back when I was rocking the Beta Evo

Moved everything into the R4, nice and cozy..

Next came the Xonar DG and 7870.

Windowed case window chillin

Cleaned up the inside and bought some LED strips from a fellow OCN member

Great build and beautifull pictures.
What camera and lense are you using?

I really like the reflection of blue in your rig.
Hope that the finished build will look awesome, too. thumb.gif

Edit: Maybe try to run the IO-cables under your bouard it would make things cleaner. tongue.gif
BTW: +Rep just for the looks thumb.gif

I'm using a pretty basic Nikon D40 with the 18-55mm kit lens. Noting too crazy, but it gets the job done well. And thanks for my first sub to my first build log! It may take some time, but the final results will be well worth it.

I'm just going to echo pretty much the same thing- really tidy and neat and great photos. The blue heatsinks of the Asus motherboard really look nice.

Thanks!

I do like the blue on the heatsinks, but I can't stand that doo doo brown PCB. Build is currently on hold because I'm helping a friend with his first gaming PC ever. I picked the parts out and gave him a super solid first system that even I'm a little jealous of. rolleyes.gif I may post a few pictures of it in here just because.

If you've been debating on buying this case, don't. I can not recommend it enough. I remember when I was one of the few to snatch it up when it was first released and now I see it all over the place. FD did a great job with this case for sure! wubsmiley.gif

I have two of these cases (non windowed), these things are just sexy.

Welp.. Just finished the build for a friend and I was able to use his PSU to test my system. Turns out there was a short on my board caused by the standoffs. I removed the board and hooked up everything in a test bench environment. Went to start it up and it did indeed start, buuuut no video. My video card is fresh from RMA and worked fine in his 3570K + z77 Mpower build, and his new 7950 didn't post video in my system either. I was getting a VGA post error, so I'm going to go ahead and say that my motherboard has failed on me. The second AMD motherboard to do so. mad.gif

In light of that news and how much I enjoyed using the 3570K + z77 combo and AMD's poor motherboard selection, I'm switching to Intel. I really do love AMD and was going to buy the new 8350 to boost my system, but there is a Microcenter about 1.5 hours from me and I'm going to make the trip. Using their pricing, the Intel build is a lot more affordable, and since I have to get a new CPU + motherboard anyway, might as well get what I've wanted for a long time.

Hope yall don't hate me for leaving you, but I'll always be rooting for AMD no matter what. thumb.gif
