Since you asked this in the PC gaming section... All games prior to number 7 are only available on various consoles. Final Fantasy 7 is available on the Square Enix website. It's my personal favorite. 8 was also on PC, but is difficult to find these days. All FF games after that, except for the two MMOs are also only on consoles, and I haven't played either of them.

Final Fantasy 4 (2 in the US) is a good place. You have a hero who isn't a little kid...he's a warrior, summons, white mage, black mage, dragoon, etc. One of my favorite in the series.

Just make sure you own the game, and then there is no problem simply playing them on ROMS via computer. Much better experience if you use a controller in my opinion

FF1 is pretty hard to digest nowadays, unless you're really into the NES era. FF2 is a good starter, and then go in chronological order up to, in my opinion, 7 and tactics. After that, you might as well stop because it gets so caught up in bad anime tropes it can't be stomached. People like Tactics 2 a lot, but I'm afraid to play it because of the deep, burning man-love I foster for the first.

Seriously, if FFT is the last game in the series you play, you'll be ending it on the highest note possible.

wow really ? you became interested because of a CGI trailer that's supposed to represent a game that's extremely losely based on the FF series?

i would understand if you watched a trailer for FFX, or even the FF's before that, but cmon =D

Anyway, begin with FFX. It's my personal favourite FF game of all time. Then try FF8, FF7, and the earliest FF's for super nintendo. Unless you wanna play'em in order. Then just start with the very first FF game and work your way up tongue.gif

9 was the one that hooked me. Never before had I experienced something so atmospheric with such a rich, deep plot. X sealed the deal, after that one I just started grabbing anything Final Fantasy and playing the hell out of it.

forget ff7 and ff8 pc

get the psx discs or isos, play it in epsxe emu with pete ogl2 plugins, get ff7,8,9

then do the same with pcsx2 and emulate ffx, ffx-2 (not very god), ff12 (very different but nice still)

but if you really want to understand the greatness of square gold years, then get chrono trigger (snes nds psx), and chrono cross on psx, i like those more because there are no random battles

i played ff3 and ff4 on nds, and did not like them very much
