MSI is fine, and their support isn't bad but give them time to respond. I RMA'd a GTX 570 with them and I had a brand new one at my door within 2 weeks of initiating the RMA.

Cpu's that MSI advertised were ready to be put in and most didn't even have to overclock for them to explode, And considering MSI's FLAG SHIP PRODUCT the 7970 lightning doesn't even have dual link in it's DVI ports Something that Gpu's have had for YEARS NOW, HELLO FLAG SHIP CARD CAN'T RUN A 2650*xxxx monitor via dvi, Yes msi products and their support is bad.

Here's a better idea, go buy a differant brand 7970 when and if they RMA it and sell your current some fanboy will love a lightning OP

I agree that it was a poor choice of ports, although the 7970 Lightning was never that great to begin with compared to other Lightning cards. However, if he likes it then there is no reason why it can't be replaced. It sounds like you had a bad experience with MSI and aren't willing to give them a second chance. I've only had a hard time with Asus, but I gave them a second, third, and fourth chance and they failed miserably each time so now I don't buy their stuff any more.

Why would i give a second chance to a company that falsely advertises their products, My motherboard specifically stated that it supported 125w CPU's, Says so in big letters on the heat sink for the VRMs, I put a phenom II x2 dual core in it, And the Vrms exploded, It took two months for them to RMA it and the second one exploded after that, Now their flag ship card cannot do 120hz via dvi (I'd take an educated guess that 95% of all 120hz monitors only do dvi) Nor 2560x1440+ via dvi, Which if you spend that much money on a card like this you are likely running one of those two.

Respect and trust is earned not given and they lost mine in a big way.

What board did you even buy?

Also, Nvidia 3Dvision monitors usually only operate via DVI but they do not play nicely with AMD cards. I've tried several different ones with multiple AMD cards and had the same results, lots of tearing and flickering on the desktop. The few I have seen based on AMD's 120hz/3D stuff (I can't remember the name) do have DVI ports. It can't be any worse than the Asus 7970 DCUII cards which had a DVI-D dual-link port that simply did not work in dual-link mode. It even had a BIOS switch to select if the port would be dual or single link.

Actually states 140W cpu capability yet it couldn't handle the Phenom II x2 550 at STOCK

oh and back then, don't know about now, It was better to use a custom biosflasher to update MSI boards isntead of MSI mflash because MFlash bricked your board everytime.

Thats actually a pretty good board, did the CPU work in something else? I don't think the problem you had and the previous melting VRM's thing that was common on the low end boards are the same issue (obviously you had a problem though, thats for sure). Anyways, we off-tracked OP's post enough. MSI should RMA the card if he wants to do that, although it might take a few business days for them to respond.

I RMA'd a Twin Frozr 7950 in September and it took 6 weeks to get a replacement. There wasn't any update to my RMA until 5 weeks of waiting, and they don't email you, they just update the status on the RMA website.

I'm right there with you man. On my 2nd RMA for my 7850. The one they just shipped to me took 3 weeks and had the worst coil whine ever. I was willing to over look that cause the puppy actually worked (unlike my original card), but all of a sudden last night Gray screens whenever I try to run a game. I'm terrified to be without it for another 3 weeks but choice do we have.

I'm hoping if I can get customer service on the phone I can plead my case and get it expedited but I think we are screwed when it comes to this.

I think I'm just going to get an evga 660ti and be done with this. When the refurb comes I'll sell it to make back the cost.

This is the first MSI product I've ever had a problem with, but my god how many defective cards can you send a person before you recognize a problem.
