Crashing when accessing a picture/sleep?

Thread Starter
I've recently noticed when I put my computer to sleep overnight, and wake it in the morning, its as if I turned it off over night instead of sleeping.
This happens sometimes, but more likely than not.

Today, my computer crashes (not into a blue screen, just like weird horizontal lines) when I try to access any picture on my library? Running programs though is fine.. Any idea whats going on? Is it HDD related? SMART says the HDD is in good state

For the sleep issue I would update the BIOS to latest version. Second issue could be hard drive related. Sometimes you can get bad sectors but SMART won't report any errors. Run a long test in Seatools for DOS and see if it reports any errors.
