Which 670

Thread Starter
Hello since i had a rma issue with EVGA i'm looking to buy a different model i was thinking about Asus.

My previous 670sig2 was idle at 26c and i read reviews about asus idle at 38 is that true ?

What u think guys ? thanks.
AFAIK ASUS idles higher temp (31°C, ambient 22°C) but it's quieter due to fan profiles http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1325-page3.html

Idle temps mean nothing without the ambient room temps, the temperature delta (ΔT) matters more

Also see http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GeForce_GTX_670_Direct_Cu_II/32.html

Idle for asus is 38°C , is this where you saw that number?

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-670-test-review,3217-12.html

Idle is 30°C , ambient 22°C

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/01/08/asus_geforce_gtx_670_directcu_ii_4gb_gpu_review/9

Idle 30°C (4GB version)

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/55270-asus-gtx-670-directcu-ii-top-review-19.html

Idle 29°C , ambient 22-23°C

http://www.bjorn3d.com/2012/08/asus-geforce-gtx-670-directcu-ii-top/3/#.UQyVg2ePDcs
Idle 36°C

For the prices GTX 670s are selling at it may be cheaper to buy a half decent reference cooled one and use a Dwood bracket with your choice of CL water

MSI is supposed to be pretty good too, but they usually favor temps over noise in their fan profile (37dB according to Techpowerup instead of Asus' 25dB under load) so it's probably why:
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_670_power_edition_oc_review,9.html

Gigabyte 3X Windforce is louder probably due to fan profiles, the temperatures are lower or on par with Asus.

Thank you very much nice information yes from http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GeForce_GTX_670_Direct_Cu_II/32.html saw 38temp.

Right now with 20-22c in my room my sig2 idle at 25-26.

Lets say in some months i will add water cooling in my video card so temps won't be a problem i just need a trusted company to buy the card.

Because i have bought sig2 before 2 months and i only rma until now.

Is also a good idea to move to 7970 ?

I have my EVGA 670 FTW's and mine idle at about 25-28 C.

I honestly would stick with EVGA, their RMA process and support is top notch and I wouldn't go back to other companies now.

Wow that's crazy, I've had nothing but the best of service from EVGA for years, I pretty much exclusively buy their products when it comes to GPUs, always been rock solid for me, sorry to hear about your deal.

Why don't you get a lightening MSI branded 670 to OC?

Otherwise maybe look at the 660 ti for a little more bang/buck.

Anyway i must find a new video card and soon i will spread out my story in all websites on internet be sure for this.

If you purchased a card and within 30 days RMA'd it, you should get a brand new card back. But if it's after the 30 days you get re-certified card. So yes it might be scratched. Which is it?

Thanks for sharing your experience though.....smile.gif

anyway, my vote is go for MSI PE or Gigabyte Windforce....I've tried the MSI PE on 32 C ambient temps, and it's still give a quite good temperatures, gaming at 65C @ overclocked @70% fan speed and idle at 35C at auto fan speed....and Gigabyte is very good too, have 3 fans instead of 2 like other 670 have....and probably can give you more amazing temps when gaming though....not sure about the noise, however.
