HDD works with USB adapter but does not show up in windows (marked "incompatible" by IRST)

I recently upgraded my computer's motherboard to adapt to a smaller motherboard in order to fit in my new silverstone FT03. Previously I had an Asus p8Z68 v-pro mobo with a 180gb boot ssd 1tb primary hdd and 2tb backup ssd. To save space on my ssd I allocated my libraries to the 1tb hdd.

For some bizare reason my 2tb hdd is recognized by windows 7 but my 1tb hdd does not come up (if plugged in directly via sata cable) and is marked as "incompatible" by intel IRST. What makes this situation weirder is when I plug in the 1tb hdd with a sata to usb adapter it works perfectly, so the drive is NOT DEAD. I have since backed up the 1tb drive and tried to reformat it and set the new partition as active etc etc. I have still had no success what so ever.

The disk shows up in the bios and is plugged into an enabled sata port (the same port that works perfectly with the 2TB drive). Also, the 1tb drive DOES NOT show up in diskpart listdisk.

Any suggestions?

Open an admin command prompt.

Type in:
Code:
SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
devmgmt.msc

Set it to Show hidden devices from one of the menus.

Go into the drives section and completely uninstall all instances of your drive. (there will be one for every port it was ever plugged into)

Reboot and pray that it redetects properly.

If it doesn't, it's time to break out the Linux LiveCDs and reformat using Gparted.

While in Parted Magic, you may want to run an extended SMART test on the drive to make sure it's healthy.

Thanks! I actually solved the problem by removing all of the intel IRST drivers from my pc. Since I'm not using an ssd cache setup I don't really need IRST software on my PC. So far everything has been running perfectly for the last month or so.
