currently have GTS 250,core i7 920 @ 4.0, should i upgrade gpu ?

Thread Starter
i currently have a GTS 250 GPU and a ASUS motherboard with core i7 920 @ 4.0 Ghz

all is well, i dont use the system to play any games etc, just to surf net, watch videos, etc on my samsung 32'' HDTV
1920 x 1080

my GTS250 is pretty old, would i benefit from upgrading to a new card, and if i would, what benefits will i get from it ?

will it load pages faster ?
better images ?

im kind of a rookie at gpu's.

the GTS is a 1GB also

any input guys ?

Thanks alot, i appreciate it in advance

If all you're doing is watching movies and surfing the web, you're not gonna benefit at all from a GPU upgrade. What you have is more than capable of 1080p video. thumb.gif

If you don't game on it and just do the things you posted, no need to upgrade. Maybe to save some power but then a $40 HD6450 or GT610 or something would be enough.

Also, just for the sake of heat and power, get rid of the overclock tongue.gif You're not using it anyway!

i figured the overclock was overkill, but it was fun to do it when i first built the comp.

i used to play games, but no more.

does the overclock help with speeding things up in the comp anyway ?

a 6450 or a GT610 would be a MAJOR downgrade from his GTS 250.

No need to upgrade if you're not playing anything heavy. A GTS 250 for casual use is pretty much a lot of power.

If your streaming video comes from NetFlix it will not matter if the graphics are onboard as Silverlight does not use hardware acceleration on the user end.I do not think this is the way it was planned and it has been a sore spot (and web traffic generator for over a year).
