RAID Drives Easily Understood ? ? ?

Can someone please explain raiding drives as easily as they can.

So many people cant help but go into tech detail about it.

Ohh yeah the advantages and disadvantages would be great, and maybe how to.

Thanks

Check out this guide...its very easy to understand. It helped me when I was learning....plus there is a FAQ on RAID around here somewhere.

RAID0 offers a performance increase, aka it makes for a faster system.

How? I believe it is because the work is split up between the two drives.

Oh, sorry about that

I'm not sure, but I believe it has something to do with plugging them in correctly, and setting up some stuff in the BIOS. It may also involve some drivers

I doubt it's very hard, and good luck to you

If I understand you correct, you need to setup the RAID configuration in BIOS. You have to create the raid array and selct the type of raid. And usually you need to save your raid drivers-configuration to a disk. then in the beginning of windows install, it will ask you if you have an seperate drivers to install, this is where you load them up, and then it should work for you.

You are correct gobygoby, however, if the RAID controller is onboard, or requires a driver at all, it is called fakeraid. True RAID controllers look like one volume to ANY OS be it Windows, Linux or whatever. A true RAID controls the functions of the RAID (i.e. striping, parity, mirroring, etc.) within the card. A fakeraid utilizes your CPU to do all that stuff.
