Hey guys so i wanted to upgrade my GPU and i was thinking 7 series at first, but with the 8 series coming out soon (er or later end of Q4 i hear) i thougth maybe i should upgrade my GPU to a high end 6xxxx and then wait for 8 series now the deal is i trade my GPU PowerColor 5850 PCS+ 1GB for a 6950 2GB Sapphire [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102928 ] now i know that this version cant be unlocked but i do know that this will be an upgrade from my 5850 and all i would have to do is trade my 5850 PCS+ with 30$ on top ... is taht a good deal? monitor is 20.5" with 1680x1050 and i paly dota 2 mw2 bf3 (occasionally) case is phantom with all fans and what not ... also if i overclock what clocks am i looking at here? 900/ 925? thanks! for any insight tongue.gif sorry for the long post!

It's not worth it. 5850 is still an amazingly capable card especially when you OC it. You're wasting money buying a 6 card when 8 is coming around the corner.

Just take that cash you were going to spend stuff it in a nice spot and wait for the 8 to come out

you can sell your HD 5850 for around 100 bucks. you could go for the Sapphire HD 7870 XT with Tahiti LE chip. costs 270 bucks. comes with bioshock infinite and tomb raider game coupons. if you won't play the games sell the coupons for 20 - 25 bucks each . that would bring cost to 220 bucks with only 120 out of your pocket thumb.gif

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Club_3D/HD_7870_jokerCard_Tahiti_LE/28.html

1920 x 1200

HD 6870 - 64
HD 7870 tahiti LE - 100

the HD 5850 is slightly slower than HD 6870. so stock for stock the sapphire HD 7870 XT will be close to 60% faster than HD 5850. thumb.gif

with overclocking to 1.2 Ghz Tahiti LE performs like a HD 7970 (925 Mhz)

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Club_3D/HD_7870_jokerCard_Tahiti_LE/31.html

here is another tahiti le review

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/01/01/powercolor_radeon_hd_7870_myst_edition_review/

the sapphire HD 7870 XT with dual x cooler is very good . temps are in the low to mid 60s. the PCS+ MYST HD 7870 which uses the same tahiti le chip runs hotter and louder.

for 270$ bucks i can get the 7950 (when on sale) in my local area which is better then the 7870 lol, my whole point is getting the 6950 or keeping my 5850 for a while longer ... i decided i will not upgrade to 7 series for now and wait it out till 8 series comes to do a proper (and up-to-date) upgrade. 7870 for 270$ is too much imo considering my freind bought a 7950 320$ like 3 months ago
