HD 7970 artifacting while running BOINC (non-OC)

Hi there,
I have a bit of an issue (or perhaps non-issue) while running BOINC gpu apps (MilkyWay and Einstein). I get significant artifacting while those are running. It appears in areas of the screen that are not being refreshed currently, specifically the taskbar or windows in the background. They go away temporarily if I run the mouse over that part of the screen but then come right back. I tried to take a screenshot, but of course the whole screen refreshes when I do that, so they disappear. As best I can tell this is only an issue while BOINCing. I see no artifacts in games or furmark - so in that respect, it is a non issue, just sketch looking the rest of the time.

There seems to be little difference between stock clock, underclock, or overclock - the artifacts appear regardless. I believe it is worse on MilkyWay rather than Einstein, but that is subjective. Let me know if you think this would better be answered in the gpu forums rather than BOINC; just posted here since it seems to happen only in these circumstances. Thanks for the help as always!

quick edit: this is my "living room rig" running Win 7 home 64

I've never had that issue of stuff going away before when running GPU apps. It is normal to have some display refresh lag. Some projects utilize the GPU so much that there is very little left for Windows to refresh the display correctly.

I'm unable to speak on Milkyway@Home since my card isn't double precision capable, but i hope that someone who has/is running Milkyway can confirm if this is normal or not.

Like gamer said, your gpu is being utilized to the max with these tasks. One thing that can help is to turn off Aero, if you haven't already, because that takes away from your gpu or you could hook up your monitor to your onboard video( I had to do this when I was doing the 14 day Primegrid challenge because of the lag).

Its a fairly common thing and like slapstick and gamer said.. 100% GPU usage pretty much for those projects. Mine artifact heavily as well, though mainly when i open Chrome or something
