Wait and see how well it clocks to determine firstly if you have a decent cpu and secondly if temperature is your limiting factor.

If the answer to both scenarios is yes, then consider delidding but use cool labs liquid pro/ultra on the die.

I might have used the wrong word

I dont want to use the bare die. Just remove the original paste with my own one.
As far as I know intel used a low grade paste under the IHS

I just assumed he worded it wrong becuase I'm not sure why anyone would be willing to delid but not buy an aftermarket cooler confusedsmiley.png

Just pick up some AS5 at Radio Shack for $10 and you should see a few degrees difference. Although if you aren't OCing it probably doesn't really matter all that much.

I would not take the IHS off (known as delidding) unless you are overclocking, and even then only if you are getting high temps that are limiting your over clock (it's probably not worth it for ~4.5, for instance). Replacing the TIM on the cooler itself is no problem.

The pre-applied thermal paste is actually quite good.
Here check this out : http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Intel-Stock-Thermal-Compound-Review/1273/4
So i don't see any reason to replace it unless ur going to OC thumb.gif

My temps: Idle : 32 / load : 45 ( After 1 hour of BF3 )
