Well its not stable beyond getting through 3DMark06 I have had the Vcore over 1.6v but the highest temp I have seen on the coretemp 3.6 is 82 degrees under just about 100% load. I have been nugging the QPI/VTT up and down to avoid Stop:0x124 but with limited success. I have decided to get an i7 2700K.
Hopefully I can manage 5ghz+ with my Koolance gear. Thanks for the help guys

I would like to try to get it to 4.7. The current system setting are below. The CPU Vcore is higher than it needs to be to get 4.64 I just haven’t backed the voltage back to find out the lowest voltage at this clock but under Flight sim load it never gets hotter than 70 degress. I understand the Vcore can go higher it just shows up red in the bios when I notch it up one.

When I notch the BCLK up to 222 and hit f10 it doesn’t even post. I restart and get the system failed because of overclocking or over voltage message.

Anyone got any suggestions as to how I can get to a Setting of 223 or 224 BCLK?

Maybe I should remove one of the 4, 2 gig sticks from the mother board?

Flight Simulator X is an old game. It'll max fine on a core 2 duo, this is not an adequate stressing tool to see if your system is stable.

great overclock BTW. I have only tried 4.5 ghz on mine. Never pushed it any further but
post #17 of 77
Wow, thats nice. Ive had mine at 4.2 for about 10 minutes, temps are just tooooooooo high.

I do agree about that Flight Sim game not being adequate stress testing though, especially since you say you only get 82C on 1.55v while playing a 6 year old game.
Unless your motherboard has a slow mode for QPI link, 4.7 isn't going to happen on a 920. Max QPI link is 8000 MT/s, or 4000MHz as reported in CPU-Z. Since the lowest multiplier for that is 36 on most boards, that gives you a hard limit of ~222 BCLK. Problem is that even if your motherboard supports this slow mode (I know some Gigabyte boards do, but no idea which), apparently it has a massive effect on overall performance so it will completely nullify any effect your higher BCLK would have.

1. Flight Simulator X is not a game, it is a Simulator.
2. I am not using it to stress test, it is what the system is for.
3. A Core2duo will not max out flight sim X. Nothing yet will max out
flight sim X with demanding addon aircraft, scenery, and weather.
The idea is to get a fluid image say 30+ frames per second with the maximum
visual detail i.e. all of its setting to maximum over say Manhattan.
( I just tried it at 4.7ghz and its 10 to 15 frames per second. Its actually quite good
but the transition from frame to frame is decernable. Interestingly enough its the morning
and it is cooler than usual in my basement and the computer is turned off all night
and it ran for 20min flying arround Manhattan before I got 0x124. Thats the longest i seen it run
at 4.7)

To get that 30 fps for what I want to do is going to take 5ghz plus at least a 580gtx and 8gb of ram with
low Case Latency.

I know its not a bench mark but FSX is a very demanding application for any hardware

Doesn't seem too demanding to me...
