Stay away from APU laptops that only have one RAM slot available, especially for A6s to A10s. The IGP is much more powerful than Intel's HD 2000s, 3000s, and 4000s, but requires a lot more memory bandwidth or it will bottleneck.

That first link I posted was after deciding to not get the Lenovo with the single ram slot. I never said it was better. as for the first Lenovo with the i3, how much of an improvement is that going to be over that Samsung with the a8? From what I've been reading that the a8 is decently comparable to the i3s. I mean either of those I believe can be upgraded a far a ram so not worried. Yes the main gaming would be for the desktop but there would be light gaming such as counter strike source and killing floor. Will look more into each one but on phone right now.

What about this guy?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230909&Tpk=ASUS%20K55%20Series

brings it under 400$ and I've not had any issues with refurbished from newegg before. Peoples thoughts on getting a refurbished item from them?

If you're interested in light gaming, an APU has better CPU/GPU balance than Intel's offerings.

Typically Crossfiring an APU with an discrete GPU negates the APU's value against an Intel + discrete GPU setup. However, since you got it for $400, there's nothing wrong with it.

Refurbished can mean a variety of things. It could be that the original customer bought it, but returned it back, sometimes without opening the box. Or, it was at a showcase/demo, and was put on sale as refurbished because it was used. Or, the product was damaged (ranging from a few scratches to a burnt mobo), returned, repaired, and put on sale again.

Be warned that in extremely rare cases, the product is DOA (Dead on Arrival), or there's a big rock in the box. Some retailers will take it back and give you a refund, but a few will accuse you of attempting to defraud them.

I had a friend who had that happen to them. Was a while ago by this point, 5+ years, back when the Gateway FX laptops were the hot thing. Bought one refurbed and it just had a rock sitting in it. XD

Opened a lawsuit against the company and ended up getting what he wanted. tongue.gif And he got to keep the rock. ^_^
