Motherboard that supports FX8350 out of the box?

Thread Starter
I've heard that most motherboards do not support the FX-8350 without a BIOS update, which I assume cannot be done with it in the motherboard.. Does that mean I'd need to buy a cheap old AM3 processor just to update the BIOS, then swap it out for the FX8350?

If that is the case, is there a list of motherboards on the current market that support the FX8350 without doing any updates? I was looking around myself but I'm limited to buying parts from Amazon UK and they only seem to carry revision 1.0 of most motherboards which I guess do not support without the update.

thanks smile.gif

Rev 1 boards will need a BIOS update. The newer Rev 3 shouldn't. And yes you would need a different CPU in order to flash the BIOS.

Yeah just as I suspected, Do you know of any motherboards that will support them without the update that can be bought from Amazon UK?

if the board is new and made recently the latest bios should be installed. i recently picked up a GB 990fxa-ud3 in september and came with the latest bios.
unfortunately there is no way to tell when buying over the internet.

I had a rev1 Sabertooth that recognized my 8320 just fine. It booted up to windows no issue. For peace of mind I ended up flashing the bios to the most recent, but I definitely didn't need an older chip to do so. The gigabyte UD3 I had did so as well.

I just found the Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 on Amazon UK, the Asus website seems to imply that it supports the FX8350 without a BIOS update.. but their site isn't worded very well. Can any of you guys confirm that the FX8350 would work with the Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 without updating?

The revision 2 Sabertooth is the newest version according to the Asus website. That board does in fact support the newer FX chips. You should be good to go thumb.gif
