Question about building a cluster to fold on.

Hey everyone. I would like your opinions on weather this would be worth it or not. I came acorss this http://www.webstreet.com/super_computer.htm and thought maybe that would be a great way to build a good folding rig. I was thinking about using 2-4 basic systems with the AMD FX- 8320s, 4-8 gig of ram each and just some cheap extra graphics cards I have around.
Let me know what you think. My reason for thinking about this over a 4p server is that I can get higher clocked chips for cheaper than the Opterons. Another Question I had was do the opteron's perform better than the FX chips at the same clock?

Any kind of interconnect between computers is too slow for SMP. I think even daughter cards are pushing it.

Yeah TBH if you were to do this I'd just buy like 4 2600k, GTX 660 systems and have them run alone, not together. You're garunteed to get around at least 200k PPD from that setup, or just go 4p. A 4p machine can easily net 250k PPD+.

Folding does not require a cluster. It already is a distributing process. Each WU is a independent and the synchronization/inter-server communication required for a cluster will hurt performance.

Basically, it is a waste of resources to attempt to create synchronous system for an application designed for asynchronous processing. Just build a few independent boxes if you want to Fold. There is absolutely no need for those boxes to communicate with each other just for Folding.

Thanks for the responses guys. I figured it would not really be with it but wanted to see what you thought.
