So pretty much besides spending hundreds of dollars (which I should do anyways...) this game is just a fail for the PC

Oh yea i forgot to mention that even though fraps was saying i was getting 40-60 fps, it still felt really laggy, as if the frames were much lower. thought i havent tried it with the latest patches.

No, it runs great with the right hardware. Blame AMD for this one.

I've heard that renaming the EXE might help. Rolling back to an older patch should work as well. I've heard that its due to driver optimizations for older versions of the game that AMD never fixed.

I'm sorry, but what? My 7970GE runs the game tremendously better and more smooth than my gtx480 (oc'ed past stock 580 performance) so it's not a gpu issue here. It's the cpu. I went from a 8120 to a 8350 and it bumped my performance a lot in that game. OC'ing will only help further but what has already been said time and time again is that this thing is simply coded horribly

I don't know what to tell you but you're one of the few. I've run GTA4 on a few different pcs now and not one with the latest patch has it run well with an AMD card for me.

Yeah, it's a hog. Enjoyable if you have the rig for it but it's a terrible port.

What am I supposed to take out of that without minimum framerate? Haven't we had enough of that discussion in regards to the techreport articles? The first hint that something is up should be the 7950 performing a good bit worse than a GTX580. What else is going on that average framerate alone isn't showing.

You can google every bit of what I'm saying or search the forum. GTA4 tends to run like ass on AMD cards.

Its really not. There is a lot going on in that game and you can turn up the settings the hell of a lot higher than anything that you would see on the console.

Would you rather not have these options? Would you rather see a crap ton of pop ins like with Saints Row 3? Oh but that game ran well when maxed out despite not looking that much better than the console version. I guess that makes it a great port?

Comments like that remind me of the complaints that Crysis is "unoptimized" since people couldn't run it maxed out despite it being perfectly playable on almost anything if you turn down a couple of settings.

it's a well known fact that gta4 is unoptimized, it was built for consoles not pcs. it's also a 4 year old game.
so far you've posted no proof that gta4 'runs like crap on amd'; this is simply a false statement.
