Ok general question here, ARE PEOPLE REALLY THIS STUPID!

I updated a costumers drivers, IE7, Defrag, Anti-Virus, Spyware, CHKDSK, Register Cleaner, and installed all windows updates that where available!


Now as I was running CHKDSK errors where found and where fixed, as we know CHKDSK finding errors can mean the HDD is going bye bye that and the dang thing was so hot it was about to melt!

So I tell the costumer all this and he/she said to update anyway, so I did and installed an AGP Nvidia 64mb GPU and a Rear Exhaust fan 80mm.

After restart the HDD failed to load NTLDR and I inserted the NTLDR loader floppy to fix the issue and even gave her/him the floppy and told her/him how and when to use it!

SOOOO..........

This morning not to my surprise I find a nasty email sent to me!

such and such want work this doesn't do right like it use to and on and on!

Problem 1. She/He couldn't get the monitor to come on
Solution 2. Plug it in and connect it to the GPU - VGA

Problem 2. After a hour or so of being on the pc restart
Solution2. You need a new HDD

Problem 3. I cant find my favorite's and/or don't know how to properly save them so when I click them they work!
Solution3. Sit down with me for 1 hour and let me teach you how to use your computer and pay me $50 for my time!

Problem 4. I dont have time to learn!
Solution4. Tough ****



And now for the question!!!!

ARE PEOPLE REALLY THIS STUPID?

I mean what the **** do they expect me to do, I did exactly as I was asked to do!

If I go buy a car and can't drive it do I go back to the lot and complain that the car want teach me to drive it, because I can't drive a manual shift? NO you don't, you learn to drive before you buy.................

OHHHHHH and ofcourse I have dsl at the shop and the costumer has dial-up and I get a call asking why the webpage's on IE7 where loading slow I was like you have dialup its slow it cost money to go faster!

Thats very common. They want it to work but won't take the time or money to prevent problems then blame somebodyelse.

I rarely use my instant message just because of the constant barrage from past and present customers and freinds asking the forever lengthening questions of how to, how do I, why is this,what caused this....blah,blah,blah....so you get my drift??? If it's plugged in then it should work.. customer stupidity

Ok so as a small business owner with a bottom line how do I or you handle those type's of situations where ppl try to get your time for free?????

I mean how do you handle the, "OMG MY COMPUTER IS BROKE AND YOU HAD IT LAST."

99.9% of problems are caused by customer error so how do you tell them that without making them feel stupid? Because, its really easy to do!

I can understand where these people are coming from... kinda. I think almost everyone has found themself in a similar situation. But when I had problems I learned how to fix them myself before I went looking for help. And I still do.

To get to the point as far as my knowledge on computers today, if I couldn't figure something out Google was always there to show me the way. Just say "GOOGLE IT" to these people and let them figure it out. I don't mind helping someone out if they've already tried to help themselves.

But typically it has been my experience that if I show someone who doesn't know much about computers how to do something, it flies out of their head as soon as I leave the room pretty much. You tend to retain/remember things better/longer when you do them yourself and learn from it.

Which is why I <3 Google and forever my homepage will it be!

Well where I work at people get 1 free No fault found diagnositc, if it turns out to be software, user error we tell them what the problem is and the next time if they bring it in with the same problem they pay a $40 diagnostic fee. Basically if you run a business time is money.
