It's really more like 4.5 cores, if that makes sense. Each module, which some AMD detractors are saying are the "true" cores, has two integer cores but only one floating point core. But I wouldn't worry about the marketing or what have you, the fact is that the 6300 is a pretty good processor, and is one of the better values available today.

Well i owned a fx6300 for a few months it sucked , could not play crysis , stupid instruction set in chip kept it from doing so , the fx architecture is so flawed , The phenom architecture is solid and brutally honest i must say and im more of an intel guy .But i ended up selling the fx6300 and paying 40 more dollars and bought a phenom II x6 1090T and i like it a whole lot more , only thing i did not like about it is how many heatsinks i ended up testing to keep it at or under 50c while gaming, hyper 212 evo was the final solution , i have it lightly overclocked at 3.6GHZ and its fast i love it , i also own and i5 2500k that i run at 4.0ghz so i know what fast is. Heck might as well just get a 965 x4 its pretty snappy cost only 95 dollars when its available and it does get the job done has a nice hefty dose of L3 cache which is great for modern gaming , i own one of them as well i must say thats the only line of cpu i have any respect for when it comes to amd the FX is garbage its unreliable and its inconsistent , and for those who say its a true 6 core ive seen many reviews state otherwise , cpuz seems to also disagree that its a true six core , only true six cores available are the top end i7s and the amd phenom x6 line all this fx stuff is fake.
