Tool to Identify ALL components of my system? Which drivers to use?

Thread Starter
Samsung Series 7 Gamer. I'm re-installing Win 7 on a new SSD for the 2nd time. I'd like to know EXACTLY what components are on my system so that I can install the best drivers for each before I connect to Windows update. I'm a bit of a Newb with all this, so I'd appreciate a little advice on what steps work best for setting things up. I've got a recovery disk which came with the notebook. I can also go to the Samsung site and download a lot of the drivers and programs there before I install.

After my 1st install, I noticed a lot of my drivers are from Microsoft from like 2005! I've also noticed Samsung has an Nvidia driver for my video card that does not match the latest (and supposedly greatest) one listed on the Nvidia site. So 2 questions.

1 - Anyone know of a tool I can download or that is already available in Win 7 which will tell me my exact components? Then I can research what the latest drivers/software are available for each component. I've found a bunch, but so many are just listed as "generic xxxdevice," etc. For instance, I've got a nice Logitech G-15 Keyboard mouse combo that I know has special drivers and software, but it's installed as "generic keyboard" in device mgr.

2 - If I get all this info together, go to the mfr sites and see that there are newer drivers/software available for certain components, would you install the newer ones or just go with the ones Samsung and Windows update want to install because it's a system as opposed to a build? If I go with the mfr driver/software, I would install that before connecting to Windows Update/Samsung Update, right?

This notebook has some unique features like the "Modeshift Dial" and an 8gb SSD with "Expresscache", so I don't know how much those factors influence decisions for drivers. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ed

CPUZ But some components like: Monitor, mouse, keyboard, power supply are rarely identified by a computer. Those stuff should be easy for you to identify anyways.
