Computer not resuming from sleep

Thread Starter
Hi guys, so yesterday I overclocked my 3570k to 4.2ghz and the computer had been running fine. I had done lots of torture testing and it seemed pretty stable. However about half an hour ago I came back to check up on some things after watching some tv. When I came and sat down to my computer I noticed the monitor led had gone red and I assumed the computer had gone to sleep as I had been away for a bit. Then when I went to wake it up (hitting the keyboard and clicking the mouse a few times) (my general routine) the monitor turned back on but it said there was no signal. So I tried checking the connections and turning the monitor off and on again and checking the display cable that runs from my video card to the monitor via dvi-dual link and it just wouldn't wake up. I tried lightly pressing the power button to see if that would work either but it still wouldn't wake up, so in the end I just proceeded to pull out the power cable from the psu and then reconnect it. Then on the screen it came up saying resuming windows and it took me back where I was before I left my computer. So it didn't seem to turn off and I think it just failed to resume from sleep. Anyway I'm just curious to know what you think? It seems to be working fine now but could the problem have been regarding the overclock? Btw the 4.2ghz overclock had a 1.3v cpu voltage. Help would be appreciated as I am still unsure of what had happened. When it wouldn't wake up from sleep all the fans and lights in my case were on so the system definitely wasn't turned off. Sorry it's been a long post just really want to get to the bottom of it.
Thanks!

i had the same with a new install last week orso,
only thing i could do is hit ctrl alt delete, then cancel it, and it would resume ..lol
Balanced poweroptions is default i think..

but i always change power options to high performance, and turn off hibernation,
and disable C3/C6 in bios

you could try that, see if it happens again

some systems have a hard time to continue from hiberbate/sleep when oced,
not sure why tho smile.gif

Haha thanks for the advice, I did what you said and disabled c3 and c6 but I'm curious to know what they do? In bios it didn't tell me anything about c3 or c6.

Yw smile.gif

EIST(desktop) dynamically increase/decrease its clock speed between its minimum clock and its normal operating frequency, as well as voltage, in order to optimize for power consumption.
in other words a performance reduction while using the system, the system may feel you don't need full power. drats just heard a drop out.

C1E Halt: while similar reduces Clock speed by adjusting the multiplier (Core clock to system bus ratio) and to some degree VID. (voltage) this is a more common occurrence with light use
or on today case of Multicore shutting down a core or 2.

C3, C6. This is a deeper sleep with a complete core(s) shut down (Gate off) and no voltage/Data at all. harder to recover from quickly, previous data is cached elsewhere and needs to be re-cached in L3 memory
to re initialize full muliticore, multithread use. Part of Core parking

Alright thanks man smile.gif Also I was thinking about upping the overclock, as I wan't to get the full potential out of the cpu. My cooler is a coolermaster hyper 212 evo which seems to do the job and when I'm doing productivity/web searching the cores in my cpu only stay around 30-45 degrees celsius. When torture testing with prime95 the cores generally range from about 60-75 degress celsius. Do you think that's good? How much more overclocking do you think I can do? What voltages would you recommend? (Currently 1.3v with cpu @ 4.2ghz)

Thanks for all the help btw! smile.gif

not 1.3V vcore at only 4.2ghz ...lol

1.3V is more a vcore you can run 4.5ghz with,
prolly less then that too,
im at 1.305V vcore 4.7ghz for example, and i have a average ocer..

are you using auto vcore?
most of the time it gives you to much see..

you can use it to find a starting point for your oc,
take the number auto vcore gives you under load,
use that as start point for fixed vcore, and lower it till it crashes in a stability program like prime,
up 1 or 2 notches, then rerun tests..

depends on your temps how high you can oc it, so keep a eye on them all the time,
80-85C while running prime is ok, a spike upto 90C max is no problem

Haha, infact no I'm not using auto overclock one of my friends suggested 1.3v for 4.2ghz smile.gif Also do you have a steam account? If so could I maybe add you to have a talk with you? Might be easier than chatting on here. I'm new to overclocking so all the help you're giving me is great! smile.gif

nice friend, guess he wanted to make sure you dont run into problems with your oc,
i still say its to much vcore for that minor oc, you could prolly have done that 4.2ghz
when you let vcore on auto too..
no, no acc over there srry smile.gif
would help if you update your op with hardware you have,
or update your sig would be even better ..

Sorry I don't quite understand. Update my op with hardware I have? Update my sig? Do you mean that little tab underneath what you write that you click and it shows whats in some ones computer/rig? For instance your one is called BamBam. And if that's what you mean could you tell me how to do that please? smile.gif
