I debated putting this question in the Networking section but decided on operating systems as this is the piece I have any control over.I am in the hospital (and will be until the end of March). The hospital has a "guest wi-fi" ability but it is heavily throttled. My question concerns what I can do on my end (Win 7 Pro) to make the best of this throttled connection.I eliminated everything possible in the start menu.I use just a solid color for my desktop, small icons. I have only one address bar running,no extra search bars or even addblocker. I ask if anyone has a hint to get more out of this throttled connection.I came from a 20MB/5MB connection at home to this heavily throttled connection and the performance degradation was startling.Yes my browser is IE9.Perhaps a browser change,Firefox,Chrome, perhaps a linux distro. With the Linux distro I fear problems with watching NetFlix (my main use while here in the hospital). If it is of any importance,I contracted a bacterial infection in the operating room and have to stay pretty secluded while I am pumped full of antibodics. Thanks to all at OCN.I do not have a lot of energy for heavy modifications, but I will try.
