Like a dummy I probably should have specified all of this before hand. I have a Coolermaster HAF 922 with 3 exhaust fans and 1 intake fan. 2 of the exhaust fans and the intake fan I have connected to an NZXT MESH fan controller and they are all at 40%. The back exhaust fan is on the motherboard and I have it set at STANDARD (STANDARD, SILENT, and TURBO are the 3 options)
The CPU is an AMD 965 BE. Look it up because there are 2 different kinds, mine is the Black Edition and it is at stock settings.
The funny thing is that before I put in the fan controller, I had 2 exhaust fans and no intake and the CPU didn't make a noise at all. But that was also before I began playing Path of Exile and Borderlands 2. The top exhaust I transferred from the motherboard to the controller but the speed looks about the same if I look at it going.
So to sum it up, I added 1 more exhaust and 1 intake to a fan controller. So the fan controller has it all going at 40%. The back fan is controlled by the motherboard.
My temps are 48 C when it starts picking up and making the fan noise which makes me think I should invest in an aftermarket heatsink. Right now the fan is at 47 C and it is about halfway as loud as it usually is when I play games.
I do not think anything is broken, I just don't like the noise. I am not worried about it heating up because I have adequate airflow and nothing is OCed.
Look up HAF 922 and look at the diagrams about the fans if you want so you can get a better understanding of my fan situation unless you already know what is causing this.
I forgot to add that my case is very open with a lot of holes which makes me hear every little sound in my PC. A while ago I had to test my hard drive because it made a loud noise when starting up and I came to find out that they all make that noise. It's just that my cases were all closed and they muffled the sounds.
I keep adding stuff but bear with me here. Also when I close games and close almost all programs the temps go down about 2 C and the fan quiets down. It's just when a load is put on it then the fan speeds up and creates a noise. I had 2 programs in the background running just now (Skype, Firefox) and a game called Path of Exile which I can set to high settings graphically because my computer can handle it. The temp went up to 52 C and now after 5 minutes it is down to 51 C and it is still like a jet engine but it is quieting down.
I think I just need an aftermarket heatsink but I don't know the first thing about buying one. I don't want a Hyper 212 because they are too bulky. I would like a slimmer one that is easy to put in. I have never put in an aftermarket heatsink before so I am a bit nervous. The only experience I have is watching tutorials on youtube.Edited by Thready - 2/3/13 at 1:27pm
