Can't wait to OC!

Thread Starter
I went for a full upgrade and ordered everything that's in my sig specs. It took me a few hours of good research with most of it coming from this site.

I have never overclocked before and I hope I picked some friendly oc'ing hardware. I have no doubt I'll be posting back here in a few days with questions. =)

Hurry up Mr. UPS man!!

See if your Zalman can handle the same overclocking settings I have:

__________

I've let all the power saving features on (enabled) so that my CPU even overclocked will consume less energy and therefore the frequency will change from 2.0GHZ to the full 3.0GHZ when needed/full load.

I use a 2:3 ratio (which gives me a 1000mhz RAM Frequency) but if you decide to run with a 1:1 ratio then the DRAM Frequency will read 664mhz or a 4:5 ratio which will be a 835mhz. Timings should be the same, 4-4-4.

Goo luck.

So all I have to do to OC is change the setting to what you have on these 3 screens? I'm not new to building computers...but extremely green to OC'ing.

My plan is to not push the envelope...but to get 'er up to at least 3.0Ghz.

I have one newbie type question to start with. Before I mess around, I should install the OS first, correct? Thanks!

All parts should be in on wednesday!

Yes, install your OS before tweaking settings in your BIOS.

Although it doesn't really make a difference, but you can't really use the computer (and test things) if you dont have an OS installed.

Basically, there is no reason not to install the OS before OC'ing.

Okay...parts came in yesterday and I built it last night.

It runs idle around 39-40c with the Z9500 cooler. That seems a bit warm to me.

I then went into the bio and nervously set the CPU freq to 334. It booted stable and was at 3.0Ghz...but had an idle temp of about 47c.

Does this seem about right so far? Do I need to tweak any other bios settings?

If I were you I would consider stopping and testing for stability using orthos. Let it run for a few hours without giving you an error before you change anything else. Then use the overclocking guide to take it further. Edit: It's a sticky atop the Intel CPUs page.

Just a suggestion.

I've done a lot of research since I posted this. To run a 1:1 ratio, wouldn't I have to set my CPU Freq to 500 since I'm running DDR2 1000?
