Plasma TV Component Sound Not Working (3.5mm to RCA)

Thread Starter
I'm currently trying to get sound from computer speakers (MAudio AV40's) to my tv (P50ST50). I purchased a 3.5mm female to RCA male adapter and plugged the speakers into the 3.5mm, then connected the RCA inputs to the red/white plugs on the tv's component adapter. Nothing.

I've made sure the 'Tv Speakers' setting was off and connections are secure. Also tried plugging some RCA input headphones directly into the red/white jacks (to see if it was the adapter that's the issue) which also produced no sound.

At this point I'm thinking it could be the TV itself (but really hope it isn't!).

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Edit: I think I may have realized that the speakers need to be connected as an Output source. According to the TV's manual, Digital Out is the only output jack.

Why are you trying to get sound to the tv?

No the speakers would be considered input source output is if you want to hook up to stereo and play the sound from the tv through the stereo instead of the tv.

Basically to do what you want to do think of it this way if you hook up a dvd player and only plug in the audio you have to change your input on your tv to dvd and when you do all you will hear is the sound you will have no video . All your doing is using your tv as computer speakers and wont be able to use the tv for anything else while listening to the sound from your pc. Thats why I asked just seems like alot of hassle. I would just hook up speakers or run it through the stereo much easier and better result.

I think I figured it out. I ordered a digital to analog converter that supports dolby digital conversion. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0021QBIBQ/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1359933381&sr=8-17&pi=SL75

My tv only has optical output, so this thing should do the job.

So the setup will go optical out>DAC>analog>speakers.

No out is for sound going out of your tv only. See page 13 on your manual your out is what you hook up to a stereo. If you want sound to go from your pc to your tv you will never get it plugging it into the output on your tv. You can buy anything you want it wont work. On page 12 if you follow the audio in there is a green input on the back of your tv . I will include the pic of the back panel this is what your tv looks like right? Its the green plug. You will need a 3.5 to 3.5 connection. Plug from the 3.5 on your pc to the 3.5 on your tv. Then you will need to change the tv to the right input source and you will hear it through the speakers with no video of any kind.

Right now my computer is hooked up to the tv via hdmi, and sound does come out of the tv. I also have a ps3 hooked up via hdmi. I want the sound for both of those devices to come out of my AV40's.

So you're saying to try and hook the speakers directly into the 3.5mm port on the tv?

Oh ok no you want to hook the speakers up to the output from your tv. Your original post said you were trying to get sound from your speakers to your tv thats different then from your tv to the speakers. You will have to buy the digital to analog converter from amazon to make it work.
