Battlefield 3 SLI GPU Usage issue

i5 2500k @ 4.6ghz 1.32v
2x gtx 670 windforce 1300mhz 1.21v

getting 55-85% usage in battlefield 3, commonly in the 60's and 70s...

crysis 3 gets me 95-99 each always.

what's going on here>?

What is your FPS like? Do you have VSYNC enabled? What is your CPU usage at?

That sounds strange though, because when I would play BF3 my GPUs were pretty much always in the 90s. CPU shouldn't be bottlenecking you at all either.

fps 60-150, vsync not enabled cpu usage is kinda low. around 40-60%

evga precision x, then cpu usage monitor in resource monitor cpu usage is usually around 80% right now.

BF3 is known for poor SLI optimization, but, there are somethings you can do to improve gpu usage if you really want to see it at 99%.

Firstly I would recommend you follow BradleyW's guide for removing Nvdia drivers, which can be found here.http://www.overclock.net/t/1150443/how-to-remove-your-nvidia-gpu-drivers

Now you have 2 options.

1. Download and Install from Nvidia the 285.62 Drivers http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-285.62-whql-driver.html

These are older drivers, but, they give the best SLI usage out of any other driver for BF3 - that I found so far*. Its consistently at 96-99% for most maps.


2. Install the latest drivers, Then 313.95 is THE driver you want. sorry wrong one, latest for BF3 is 310.70


*I just found out about the 313.95 drivers trying them now. Nope , going to stick with 285 for now.

I get consisteny high usage out of my 560ti's in SLI monitored with MSI afterburner on my G13 lcd display. No problems gettitng 80+ gpu usage at times with them depending on the scenario at hand.

I feel your pain bro, check this out...



The last numbers are my GPU usage. Hard to see, so 23 and 27%!!

It varies wildy from 30 to 90% depending on map. FWIW, I'm going through Crysis 2 right now and I get 95% across both GPU's. Given your CPU, I'm inclined to agree w/ daguardian.

Im actually in my 60-70% usage with my single EVGA 670 FTW at 1202mhz max boost clock @ stock clock/voltage 1.175mv. I stay roughly around 60 with some drops when its super crazy and its like 64 player and its like (&@#$(!*Y$!@$(OP BOOM and yeah thats basically what happens and then fps drop... but its pretty rare. Pretty smooth most of the time. I am on adaptive vsync and it is butter smooth 99% of the time. I think one 670 overclocked or a 680.... is about enough to handle battlefield 90% of the time... but then for those fps drops you would require another video card to cover for those fps drops.... (like fps headroom in case of fps drops to stay above 60 fps smooth)... and honestly one card handles BF3 max settings fine at 1080p with only 256bit 2GB VRAM.... so i think with two video cards it doesnt really matter for the most part since one card already handles it fine... while the second card really just has the purpose of the "headroom" for fps drops.... at 1080p i think this is the case.
