[Liquid Cooling OC] i7-3770K @ 5.0Ghz?

Thread Starter
Hey OCN, I'm currently running my 3770K @ 4.6GHz with the H100i cooler in a push/pull config (using the 2 base fans and the 240mm on the top level of my Phantom 820 - but now I want to push it further.

My ambient temps range from 22-30c and usually not above (even though it's summer here, the most we worry about is humidity).
After checking CoreTEMP my CPU's cores are at a min of 32c and a maximum of 43c. I know the "keep away" spot is up to about 91c and I'm wondering how much more heat I'd be taking on with 5GHz. (also note that the profile I'm using for my H100i is the out-of-the-box profile, I'm using MSI Afterburner to mess with fan RPM.)

In theory, I assume I could go up to 5.2GHz with only a 10-15c increase which would be fine for me and most likely stable (no clue at what volt though).

So what do you guys think, push it to 5GHz (if you can supply me with what to do + I'll screencap it later from the BIOS/CPU-Z/CoreTEMP) or leave it at 4.6? I'm happy with the stock and 4.6, but I'm just 'pushing' my luck wink.gif

Thanks guys,
Adyrali/Stryker.

what mobo and ram are you using? temperatures increase exponentially after about 4.7 since you need dramatically more volts to remain stable so it is unlikely that you will be able to hit 5.0 with an h100i. you can probably get it to around 4.7 or 4.8 if you have a good mobo but it all depends. every chip is different so it's just playing the silicon lottery smile.gif

if you want to hit over 4.6ghz you need to delid. but 5ghz you need to directly cool the die and use liquid pro for the best possible temp.

i was able to hit 5.2ghz but not 24/7 stable. so im making due with just 4.8...

I'm using the ASUS P8Z77-V PRO w/ 16GB of Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz OC'd to 2133MHz.
I might stick with 4.6, but I'd like to go for 5.2 as a new record for myself.

Hm, I doubt I'd be able to get past 4.7 then :/

Because the point of this thread was to see if anyone has done it before and if so what voltages and cooling they used. kthnx.

What voltage are you at @4.6Ghz? Also, have you checked for stability @4.6 (Prime 95/LinX)? As others have said, 5.2Ghz without a delid is possible.. But, not likely with safe temps on an H100.

I don't remember at the moment, but once I restart I'll check the BIOS and check the volts, I have used Prime 95 but I don't remember the exact tests or if I used the stress one etc. this was a few weeks back, but it's been stable 24/7 on 4.6 this whole time.
