Tragedy...

So.. after having my first watercooling loop running for a couple months with somewhat disappointing results, I decided to take another stab at de-lidding (first attempt sent my chip to heaven).

While doing that, I thought I'd move some things around to make my loop prettier.

Anyway... turns out one of my fan screws went in too deep, while leak testing my motherboard & video card took a very unwanted pastel-white shower.
There goes my Magicool 280..

I blow dried the stuff and everything seems to be working, even ran my newly de-lidded chip with the stock cooler for a couple minutes, this one survived the razor blade treatment.

Now waiting for some fittings & a black ice gts280 so I can re build my loop.. again.

Just felt like sharing the pain... be careful with them fan screws!

That does suck.
When mounting the fans on the rad I always put one screw in the fan & put the fan against the rad just to check the screw depth & see if I need washers or not for enough space to tighten them down.

Good the hear the chip is well though!

That's a good tip for installing rads.. will definitely keep that in mind.
the Alphacool rad I have has this piece of steel beneath the mounting hole.. how come the others didn't think of that ? tongue.gif

My 3770k is working, hopefully it'll be cool but I don't have any hopes for super high OCs.. it needs 1.37V to run stable at 4.7.. so I don't see it going over 4.8 without crazy voltages. At least it'll be cooler!

Oh and, the new 280 rad i'm getting.. 30 FPI. Stresses me out a little bit, hope it performs well with one set of fans...

Fix the radiator yourself. Will take 5 minutes tops. Google radiator repair, there's a million videos on it.

Dude, sandpaper, solder, soldering iron = fixed. Do it yourself and then throw it into your loop for better for a better delta!

360 + 280 in a Corsair 500R is already pretty crowded.. lol.

You convinced me though. After I get the black Ice and my loop working I'll try to fix it. Nowhere to put it in my case but why not have a spare rad.

so.. turns out my motherboard bit the dust. Worked for a few days and now it's dead..

I tried drying it out cleaning it, discharge the power... nothing helps. My sabertooth is gone probably due to that leak frown.gif

so.. time for a new board -
Any suggestions ? I'm thinking the msi z77 mpower..
