680i Motherboard Roundup

Thread Starter
I've got an Antec Nine Hundred case and a OCZ Technology GameXStream 700W PSU sitting at home just waiting for a new 680i motherboard.

I just noticed today other 680i motherboards coming on the scene or announced at least. The ones that I know of are:

eVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR
Asus P5N32-E SLI (Product)
Asus Striker Extreme (Product)
ECS PN2-SLI2+
BIOSTAR TF680i
BFG nForce 680i SLI (announced: http://www.neoseeker.com/news/story/6279/, http://www.bfgtech.com/nForce680i_motherboard.html)
MSI P6N Diamond (announced: http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=35928, http://www.msi.com.tw/program/newsre...ge.php?UID=503)
DFI 680i SLI (http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=4349)

My first choice based on what I've read so far is the Striker Extreme but that price...DAMN! Not sure it's worth that much compared to the P5N32-E which is $100 USD cheaper.

I'm interested to see the MSI board once it's released for the onboard Creative Labs X-FI audio.

By the way, is it me or do the Biostar and ECS boards look EXACTLY the same?

But the best advice I've seen so far is...wait a month. I'm dying to see comparisons/shootouts/roundups of all these 680i motherboards.

If there are others 680 mobos that I've missed or reviews surfacing on the net that are facing off these mobos, please post links here.

Maybe cooling isn't as much of a problem with all boards and I got one that has issues, but I wouldn't get any of the boards that have the "reference" design (EVGA, BFG, some others probably). They're pretty hot and blow hot air on your CPU.

I saw a preview of the one from DFI somewhere and it looked pretty good.

The bfg, evga, ecs and biostar are exactly the same, the only one that is different on your list is the asus. BTW there are serious issues with the reference design one with the sata controller if you OC too high.

Go for the asus p5n32-e (mine). Same layout as striker extreme, same bios but the striker has extra bling for $100 more. I've only done an initial test for stability at 500 FSB passed with flying colors. With the new bios, kunaak at extreme hit 534 FSB stable on air. The best I got on the EVGA was 470 and I haven't seen any higher on any of the forums. The best I've seen on the BFG is the same as the EVGA.

This board hits 500FSB on stock volts air cooled without any difficulty.

Also the Asus has 8 phase power wheras the reference models use 6 phase.

The P5N32-E is selling for the same price as the reference boards (at least here in Canada).

The board runs hot (not so much in my case as I have supreme air circulation) so I plan to strip off all the heatipes and mount separate coolers on the north and southbridge chipsets.

They are the Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II. I had to order them from Newegg (and got raped on shipping!!) so won't see them until next week.

I haven't seen crazy temps on the bridges yet but Kunaak who pushed it to 534 did.

Nope DFi 680i is slated for a 07 release you must be thinking about the RD600 which is supposed to come out this year.
