i have recently acquired LSI MegaRAID 8408e controller with LSIiTBBU02 - a battery backed 256MB ddr2 module. it came with an ancient 5.0.1 firmware.
the battery was properly detected but showed weird readings in WebBIOS and MegaCLI (improper capacity). i charged it for a few hours but with no improvement.
i decided to flash the firmware to newest 7.0.1-0083 and after this controller ceased to detect battery at all (on adapter properties in WebBios it was still 'Pesent' but bbu details reported 'no battery').
i reverted the firmware to 5.0.1-0061 and the adapter returned to the state before flashing - battery detected but with improper capacity and unable to initialize learn cycle.
these have led me to the conclusion that the bbu may be dead. since a new bbu costs almost $300 in poland (over three times more that i have paid for the entire controller), i am looking for alternatives.
any suggestions anyone?
i have a weird idea to eviscerate the battery (it is NiMH 880mAh 4.8v) - it probably contains more or less standard cells that may be replaced with generic ones cheaply. does anyone have any experience with it?
