GPU upgrade

Thread Starter
Hi,

I'm planning on buying a new GPU.

My current Specs are:

MB: DG31PR
Ram: 4GB
Processor: e4500 2.2GHz
GPU: GT 220
PSU: 450 W

I know pretty old specs. I'm not planning on upgrading my whole PC right now, budget constraints.

I want a new GPU and a PSU.

Budget: 300$-350$(for both)

I'm thinking to with any1 of these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007PJVB3Y/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00942TK8I/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004KM49WO/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I know my new GPU will be bottlenecked, but I will buy a new PC(excluding GPU) some time later.

But, as of now, I need a good GPU.

Please provide your inputs.

Thanks.

Thanks for your inputs.

I was searching for the TL Radeon HD 7870 version also but wasn't able to find any to be shipped to India.

Sad part is newegg doens't ship to India.

So, I was planning to purchase from amazon.com rather than Indian sites. It will save me around 2-3K(INR).

Ya, I'm aware of GPU bottleneck with my old MB and CPU.

One more concern, I wouldn't have any issues using 7870 on this old MB and CPU right?

I mean DDR5 ram and 256bit. My MB/CPU is too old to handle it?

And 520W PSU enough? Considering hot temperatures in India and summer approaching next month.

i am in chennai. definitely buy locally. buying from amazon is not a good idea. in case of problems shipping to US is not so easy. its not cheap too.

if your budget is Rs. 18,000 including PSU get a GTX 660 with a quality 400w psu . 30A on +12v rail (30 x 12 = 360w) is enough for a GTX 660 with a core i5. GTX 660 has one 6 pin PCI-E power connector. max power consumption even when overclocked is 150w. this card with core i5 would draw around 250w.

http://techreport.com/review/23527/review-nvidia-geforce-gtx-660-graphics-card/10

power consumption is around 225 - 230w at stock speeds with a core i7 3820.

Seasonic is a high quality psu manufacturer . 3 year warranty. Gigabyte is a reputed graphics card manufacturer. 3 year warranty.

Happening in all games or just that one?
Did you properly uninstall the Nvidia drivers before installing the AMD drivers?
Aside from the problem, I'd advise you to overclock your CPU to give you a better performance. Won't 100% eliminate the bottleneck but will definitely be better, you'll probably need a good aftermarket cooler tho as stock Intel coolers are good for running at stock but not any high oc's if at all.

Hi,

I just play that game only currently, Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer. But, what about flickering on boot up and W7 logon screen, it's just for a fraction of a sec.

I do have a couple of other games, but ain't playing them.

I forgot to uninstall nvidia drivers. Will do that and update.

And, my CPU can't be overclocked(afaik), I already tried a lot to search for ways of OCing but didn't find anything useful.

Regards!

AFAIK, you need to uninstall the drivers and install the new ones in a certain sequence.
You'll need to wait for help from someone who's more experienced than me at removing drivers, or just reinstall windows if that's possible.
