I don't think you're the arbiter of what it takes to be deemed "hardcore".

You're showing me something that very few people, on any platform, can pull off and then fashioning as some sort of proof that is representative of PC gamers as a whole. The control mechanism is irrelevant and isn't a good indicator of what makes one more or less "hardcore" considering the playing fields are even on consoles. What you learned in CSS won't at all translate to something like COD4 with a gamepad. Most PC gamers don't like the pad with FPS because it "feels weird".

The game pad is inherently more limited than keyboard and mice, so that's why I'm not particularly impressed with what you can pull of on a keyboard with 108+ buttons that you can asAnd no informed consumer spends more than $200 on a processor and graphics(each) when the overwhelming majority of games won't take advantage of the hardware. dware. Face it, the term "hardcore" is just elitist jargon created by fanboys to try a distance themselves from the pack.

Give me proof or silence, because from what I see the only innate advantage PC gamers have are the lower latent controls...No auto-aim, high DPI, high refresh rate mice, and keyboards with ultra-high polling rates. There is no inherent advantage as much as you may no like the idea. Now consider the above statement before you try and post that PC/console cross-gaming article where the PC gamers beat the console gamers.wink.gif

FYI, there are a ton of console games that aren't on PC. Don't know why you're casually forgetting that little factoid.
No. That doesn't change the fact that the CPU and GPU have access to the SRAM, so the total effective bandwidth is 170GB/s. Its up to the developers where the buffers and textures go and in this case, it can go to either SRAM or DRAM.

Even ignoring the SRAM's bandwidth, the 768 stream processors aren't bandwidth limited. The desktop 7770 has 72Gb/s with GDDR5 on 128-bit bus, this GPU has 68Gb/s

Excuse me? Well in that case, I'll pick up a GT 650, and use the money saved to upgrade my screen to 1440p. Great logic there.

Given the millions of the devices that would be sold, the risk is way too high (unless QC is insanely tight) to be a good idea. I believe MS/AMD ensured that the insides stay fairly cool this time round if they want to reduce the number of returns

I think people forget those returns cost them money and if it hadnt been for the amount of returns on the 360 it would have been insanely successful moreso than the success it was for Microsoft. I imagine this time around engineers didn't make the same mistake they made last time.

As a PC enthusiast my main interest in the specifications is that they will push MY hardware to the next level in terms of performance and graphic fidelity. I really hope we get something in the 78xx category and not the 77xx category. Although, I do worry if this keeps us stuck at DX11 for the next 10 YEARS!

Maybe that means the PS4 rumors are also true then since the same people leaked both: 1.9GFLOPs thumb.gif

Nothing has been confirmed, so this is still considered to be a rumor. If the rumors are true then it's actually 1.2TFLOPS (Xbox) & 1.8TFLOPS (PS4).

What MS was talking about was a casual set top box powered by something like on the specs of a tablet, not what's been listed here. Unless you think this is an entry level casual console and MS has some monster spec ready console hiding behind closed doors. Not likely.
When you take comments from several devs claiming that PS4 is slightly more powerful and MS saying that next gen won't be won by power.... you get a good idea that this is likely the next xbox you're looking at. It's just that many people are underwhelmed and do not want to believe it.

@Fate: I don't think Microsoft is that dumb to release a "high-end" & "low-end" SKU for the next Xbox. Meaning, I doubt there will be different SKU's with different system specifications, that would be a nightmare for developers (though development maybe streamlined) to downgrade a game to run on different SKU's...it just doesn't make any sense. I can see MS releasing a Xbox branded Apple TV like set-top box and the actual gaming console though, that can cause confusion among consumers if not marketed properly.

In any event, rumors are rumors...1st we heard the next Xbox being very powerful now we are hearing the other way around, this can all be fabricated specs by some knowledgeable internet tech geeks to cause a scene. Fortunately for me, I am a gamer so I'll more than likely get PS4 and Next Box or w/e they end up calling it.

Your source is old. If two versions of Xbox is planned, the latest leaks would have known about it. No mention of two versions at all

whatever, This is why I don't normally partake in conversations about upcoming games, platforms. You just get verbally attacked. All I was merely stating is that it is possible. I formally resign from this thread. medieval.gif

I think it is quite believable...but don't even consider the lower end "version" an Xbox. It wouldn't even have a disk drive in it. It was rumored it would be a DVR/Streaming device that could download the casual games that are on Xbox live. Probably will have the same level of "xbox" compatibility that the Windows 8 app store does. Personally I think it ties neatly into the Intel plans of offering Internet cable TV since they would need a platform for that...and Intel and Microsoft have been working pretty well together for a long time. So there might be an Intel system made outside of the AMD Xbox contract.
