Great, pollute this thread with another one of the AMD vs Nvidia discussions. rolleyes.gif

I just read an interesting rumor over on Xtremesystems. Maxwell on 28nm in Q4. We already know AMD is coming with a new architecture on 28nm in Q4. Nvidia might decide to skip Kepler refresh and do the same. It would fit with the Sweclockers rumor, wouldn't it? Perhaps TSMC is having problems with 20nm and it will be late 2014 before it is ready? Perhaps there is information out there that contradicts this, this is all speculation of course.

If its true, and not just necessary product backing and support, then awesome. When GPU wars start, we win.
There is absolutely no logical reason to draw that conclusion from this statement.

I was just saying what I think, I don't think AMD is going to respond to titan. I think they would respond if it was a 780, something affordable and without limited quantities.

Exactly what I'm saying.

That's great logic. If 6 series sales are indeed tumbling (which they aren't), let's introduce a top tier niche card to boost sales instead of a price drop.

Ok, let's go back to reality now. In Q3 2012, Nvidia raised it's discrete gpu marketshare to 65% vs Amd's 35%. I have yet to find the result for Q4 2012 but in Amd's latest financial report, the graphics division was down $16 million in revenue for q4 2012 vs q3 2012.

I ROFL every time I hear someone say the 6 series is overpriced. Both Amd and Nvidia are a business. If Amd could sell their product for Nvidia's prices, they would. They don't reduce prices because they feel sorry for us gamers and want to be nice guys, they drop prices because the product isn't moving.

I have to put this carefully. The charts that were posted are not right. HS is faster (can't say by how much) but it's not down to just IPC.

The latest articles had very little substance:

IF AMD release their next architecture Q4 2013, there is absolutely no point for Nvidia to release Kepler 2.0 at the same time. None. 0. Next architecture from AMD will destroy those cards. I personally believe the latest charts is legit were it said Kepler 2.0 is announced in March, 1 month after Titan. Its one year after GTX 680, and it makes sense regarding AMDs next move.

AMD can`t combat Titan. No chance unless they harvested great architecture gains from GCN. The die will be too big and too hot for a single GPU configuration. But I doubt they will even try because A) They just said yesterday that 7970GHz will be their fastest GCN single GPU through entire 2013 and they rather use their resources on getting the next architecture done, B) $1000 GPUs is a niche in a niche, meaning they will let Nvidia have the niche in niche market alone with Titan. AMD will combat this with: Lower price for 7970 and trying to push 7970 CF instead.

Not to even mention 7990 with a semi low price AMD said themselves that they would let 7970GHz be the fastest single GPU from GCN in 2013. But will push out new dual cores from GCN. Go figure thumb.gif

When asked specifically about the Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan—a rumored top-of-the-line card based on Nvidia's powerful Tesla K20 offering , supposedly being released soon—Taylor said "We'll wait and see what Nvidia comes back with, and when it arrives we'll deal with it, but we believe we'll maintain leadership. I'm a firm believer in bringing back the old GPU wars. We're taking them on again."

They might have something on their hands after all or they are panicking as we speak to put a product together.

AMD has no counter to Titan in a respectable time frame I guess is what I should have said. I don't believe the HD8970 will be able to beat TItan, considering predictions say the 780 will be behind Titan by at least 25% and that is what the 8970 is going to be sparing with (the 780).

Now about this Maxwell 28nm rumor, that could be very interesting if we see that in Q4. If that is the case I will be upgrading GPUs a lot quicker than I expected.

I am super excited to see how well this thing does. I have a 7950 but if these numbers are correct then this thing is a pure monster. I will be fine CPU wise for quite sometime but the GPU aspect might be changed in a year or so tongue.gif
