If you want to go X2 then you should wait another 2-5 days to see how the 65nm versions perform

G.SKILL HZ 1GB $150
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231063

Get the HZ over GBPK series

If you are going to go X2 as suggested I Would look into getting one before Xmas as they will be hard to find mate.

Edit ...Sorry this doesnt apply for AM2.
Also, I don't know about anyone else, but in my experience those Opty 1210s run notoriously hot, even on stock. They're well over 100W I believe! So if you plan on OCing you'd have to spring for some top notch cooling. But it's up to you.

I'd go with this processor:
AM2 Athlon 64 X2 3800+ $148
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103735
or if you can spend $30 more this:
AM2 Athlon 64 X@ 4200+ $179
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103741
^^^That is a lower Watt version of the X2 4200+ (65W). People have gotten it up to like 2.5GHz w/o even having to increase the vcore...

Then I would get a cheap cooler like this:
Arctic Freezer 64 PRO
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185125
^^^ You can even find it cheaper than that! And it's awesome! I love it.

For a motherboard I like what you picked out just fine!

ASUS CROSSHAIR $189.99
X2 3800+: $148
AC64 PRO: <$29.99
Total: $367.98

ASUS CROSSHAIR $189.99
X2 4200+: $179
AC64 PRO: <$29.99
Total: $398.98

Either way you're well under $400. If I were you though, the extra $31 for the X2 4200+ is way too good a deal to pass up. Especially on the low wattage version.

Good Luck.

the whole thing with the opty's is that yes they run a little bit hotter, but you can get a really nice heatsink for cheap.

I am also building an am2 system, though i am spending nearly a grand on it, though im gonna be set for a while. I am getting an opty 1212, which run $219
( http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819105039)

which is too much but the 1210 isn't bad. And for a heatsink you can get this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106038) which is loud when running at full speed but it works like a charm.

The good thing about the opty's is the cache and they can overclock like crazy.

Mobo wise, im using an MSI because im gonna be crossfiring, but they are saying that the 3200XPRESS northbridge is great for overclocking.

Those are just my 10cents.

Here is my build:
MSI K9A Platinum - $128

Opty 1212 - $219
link is up there

LOL @ the ATI Certified RAM

Don't buy an X2 CPU's until 65nm are out, if the 65nm turn out to OC 200mhz-400mhz better than their 90nm counterparts, you'll be sorry for not waiting

Well first of all, the ones that are out are all 512 x 2 MB L2 caches so far.

Secondly, has anyone even bought one that posts on this forum yet?
