660 Ti or 7950 for Crysis 3? - Page 12

I can tell you cause I actually play the game 40FPS actually feels more like 30FPS. The game just has a stutter issue specifically with AA. Not just me their forum is full of people with 7970/7950 complaining its unplayable, unless they lower settings.

Sorry bro but it gets annoying when people recommend a GPU based on how it MIGHT OC. What happens when he takes your advice and cant get past 1150?

What happens is that he still has a far superior GPU than the overpriced 660Ti lol

I say grab a 970 Extreme 3 plus GPU's I mentioned and your good to go for a bit longer. if you cant afford it then unfortunately you will not be able to run crysis 3 at those settings, So grab a 7950 and hope its a good clocker. There just is no single GPU solution for crysis 3, excluding 690/7990 type cards.

Haha well I'm on the cheap. Would upgrading to a 7950 be worth it over my 460, considering my current rig? This is for my birthday present (16th, if you must know), and I can't go overboard obviously. My 460 is handling the demo on all high pretty well with smaa medium, so I'm fairly content with what I've got (its just the urge to crank things up).

If neither is a good choice, I'll just settle for some nice stereo speakers biggrin.gif

Friend just upgraded from 460 to HD7950 and it made a world of difference for him although his CPU isn't as bad as yours, your CPU might even bottleneck the HD7950.

But I would get it anyway, the 660Ti is not in the same league with HD7950, it competes with HD7870 which you should get instead of you want to get something cheaper as it is cheaper than 660Ti and equal/better.

NVidia cards are pretty overpriced right now and not very good value for your money.

OP if you are running a Phenom II X6 at 4 Ghz as your rig says you should do fine with a HD 7950 boost. if you are on a tight budget the PCS+ HD 7950 boost is a good choice for AUD 299

Is the X6 really that bad? haha well anyway, yes I am running it at 4ghz (well, 3.92 so I don't have to bump the voltage to 1.5v). I've decided I'll hold out on my 460 for a bit longer and possibly upgrade my entire rig further down the road. Thanks for all the help guys smile.gif

Incorrect. a stock 7950 is worse in this game than a stock 660ti. Sorry thats just fact bro.

Once overclocked yes it can dominate the 660ti, but as I said OC is not guaranteed.

OP If your looking for a update to a GTX 460 I strongly recommend grabbing a GTX 660 (non TI) and with the saved money from not getting a 7950 you can update to a better board, to better suite you for future upgrades.

A GTX 660 is on par with a GTX 580 just to put things in perspective for ya. And your Phenom x 6 is fine for single card setups. Just upgrade your board and grab a GTX 660 or 7850 for now.

Cheapest 7950 on newegg = $294

HD 7850 + 990FX board = $299

That board and GPU would be the best thing you can do for your rig right now. That way you will be ready if you ever wanna crossfire, and grab a steamroller chip.

Amazing that Crysis 3 is a AMD never settle game, yet even the beta runs better on Nvidia. wink.gif

This just proves my point that Nvidia has better performance out the box, with AMD I was always waiting on a new driver release.

Cards I owned this year 7870>7870>7950>GTX 650ti>GTX 660ti> GTX 670>2 x GTX 660

So its not like im only going for Nvidia, its just this generation AMD screwed me. I switched cause I hated the stutter issues.

Well Beta performance is hardly any indication of actual final game performance.

And with the upcoming memory-thingy fixes from AMD I reckon that will fix a lot of current issues for anyone that might have any.

Personaly I got no issues in any games as long as I stay away from VSync, which sucks anyway.
