660 Ti or 7950 for Crysis 3? - Page 17

How do we go from 660 Ti vs. 7950 to lamborghini vs. ferrari to Intel CPU vs. AMD CPU?

Seriously, can we focus please? This thread has veered WAYYYYY off topic. Time to bring it back. thumb.gif

Also, I think the question has been answered. wink.gif

hehe i think the lambo vs fer comment was a metephor for the fact that eigther one will handle the game with ease, so it kinda comes down to which one they prefer for perks and value

Talk about a zero load of BS there, but let's talk about nowadays mainstream intel+nvidia pc gamer boy. AMD has again brought something very dominating to the markets and that is 8-core architecture. Why's the CPU so crappy even if any I7 can't handle the multitask performance and the processing power of 8350 and it is also many times cheaper than some i7 CPUs. Ofc I7 has more powerful single core processing, but that won't matter much longer. Just tell me after 2 years that what I said earlier is BS, I really would love to hear that. Nowadays, consoles tell developers what to do and both of the upcoming consoles have AMD 8-core CPUs running at 1,6GHz/core, do I smell games using atleast 6 cores in the future, hmmmmmmmm? That my dear friends is the future. This ancient single core power whepeee yayayayayay thing settlement will look quite different even as early as Q1 2014, you'll see. I know that almost all of ya would tell me that this is all nonsense and come here with 10000000 benchmarks and blablabla all this and that AMD suxxor intel pwn omgomgomg but I'm not interested in that at all, that just happens to be the mainstream thing atm. And btw if you were talking about my old grandpa phenom, then yea it is crappy biggrin.gif

1. I don't have NVidia because they are not worth it at the moment, same goes for AMD CPUs
2. I'm only interested in gaming performance when it comes to choosing my CPUs, hence why I'm sticking with my 2500K
3. Source for the 8-core console CPUs?
4. Don't need to benchmark really, it just is the facts when it comes to gaming right now: AMD GPU > Nvidia GPU, Intel CPU > AMD CPU

I have a Gigabyte 660ti OC running at 1293mhz core with kepler boost and 1798mhz on the memory which gives me 172 gb/s memory transfer compared to the 144gb/s original.

But be aware that this card cripple hard on high AA settings.

I can run everything but crysis 3 beta on max settings (High on everything except very high on shading and textures) to keep steady 60fps. Medium SMAA i found out to be the best for this card. Anything higher and the framerate go to hell.

In Far cry 3 with all settings maxed out i can run 2x MSAA steady 60fps @ 1080p, but if i increase to 4x, the framerate will drop to 30-40 with lots of frametime lag. 8x is totally unplayable.

Same go for Skyrim.I have tons of texture mods. Maxed out everything except AA.. If i put on too much AA the memory usage will increase past 1820mb which then will send framerates down and below. I dont know but this card just twarts when you pass 1800mb, even if the card has 2gb. 192bit memory bus ftw!

Crysis 3 beta clearly has the most heavy game-engine atm. I believe that the final game could be a lil bit lighter, atleast after some updates. And that Far Cry 3 issus you mentioned could be about the memory bandwich gap I mentioned earlier. For example on my brother's riq which has FX-8350 at stock speed, 8gb ram, HD7850 2GB has no such issues in Far Cry 3, with the newest catalyst it runs steady around 50fps with all maxed out, even AA.
After all I'm sure that the final Crysis 3 game will have much more mature game-engine at some point after updates than the beta one, atleast it should. Especially the AA-settings seem to be hard to handle for even the deadliest riqs there are. Steady 60fps in Crysis 3 beta at high settings is awesome btw if you meant it that way. 660ti OC seems to be more than enough for it in that case.

7950 will be better coz of the extra 1gb of ram as well as having extra bandwidth; 384-bit (660 Ti is 192-bit or 256- bit i forget) thumb.gif

In my experience Far Cry 3 is heavier... although the beta doesnt have all the grahpical features of the full game i think

EDIT: in fact Planetside 2, FC3, ARMA2/OA, and sleeping dogs are heavier from my experience

Wrong. With my 660ti i can run Far Cry 3 maxed out without AA at 80-90fps with vsync off.

In crysis if i take EVERYTHING on _very high_ without AA i get around 35-50fps. post-processing, game effects and particles seems very demanding, especially during firefights.

just me. i would not pay $300 for a gpu if i can't use AA.
