I went with this card because it has a rebate and NCIX had another $20 off for a friend referral I did.

I have never overclocked a video card before and just recently overclocked my processor for the first time from 2.66(i5 750) to 4.0.

It will be going into a Rosewill Thor V2 which has 3 230mm fans in it so I think the cooling should be fine. I really want to try and hit 1200 Clock speeds and 1700 or so memory. Any advice?

Also since my old video hard plugs my monitor with DVI ports and this one only had one, I'm assuming I need to get a HDMI to DVI cable or Displayport to DVI correct?

Keep your temperatures as low as possble. You overclock can be limited to your temperatures.
Overclock your RAM and GPU separatedly:
choose one, OC, test. Get it back to stock, OC the other, test. Put both on the OC state you found, test for stability smile.gif

I didn't quite understand your question about the cables, but you can always use a dvi cable with an HDMI to DVI adapter. Are you sure you card didn't come with one?

Mine only came with a mini display port to display port adapter.

I didn't get the card yet. I'm hoping it comes with a HDMI to DVI adapter then lol.

It'll come with a mini DP to DP http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/5120/powercolor_pcs_radeon_hd_7870_tahiti_le_2gb_myst_video_card_review/index.html

But you can pick up mini DP to DVI cables on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812270468

Monoprice also has them http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246

That thing should easily do 1.1Ghz or even 1.2Ghz. I stopped using MSI AB and Trixx because they would randomly crash my games so now I'm using CCC.

So I should use the program CCC and not MSI AB / Trixx?

Yeah, I'd avoid using MSI AB and Trixx because they seem to crash games/BSOD most of the time from what I have seen and from personal experience. The overclocking option in CCC is decent enough for overclocking your card so just stick with that for now.

ack when I OCed my video cards, when I had 5870s, I flashed their BIOS. I preffered this way so that there was no software involved thumb.gif

However this can be much more complex to achieve, and first you need to OC by software for the ease of it for testing.

PowerColor came out with this for overclocking last month but I have never tried it myself.
