Best fan controller in my 'situation'

Thread Starter
I plan on watercooling a th10 push pull every rad i can fit. the case will be white so if possible a color match. i will use all gt ap-15's.

i would also like temp sensors. i think it would best if each channel can support 8 fans

what do you guys think?

gt ap-15s are 0.083A fans so thats .996 watts. However I would really not cut it as close as the simple math suggests and get an 8 watt per channel fan controller because startup wattage is often significantly higher and you dont want to be running your equipment right on its limit anyway. thumb.gif

I have the Lamption FC 9 and love it but I dont thin they have it in white 50W per channel is simply overkill and I like it. The FC 5 was also very popular with 30W per channel and they have a silver edition. I have never seen it this side of the pond but have heard people here mention this one a number of times and its not black

If you are set on white then look at this one the bitfenix recon. Maybe a subsequent poster can comment on the quality of this one.

This is a good point and well worth taking into consideration.

For GT AP-15s you can look at Nidec Servo's PDF datasheet for the starting current, for the 1850 RPM 12V version it is 360mA or 0.36A. This works out at 4.32W to start the fan at 12v.

Incidentally GTs are the only fans that I have ever been able to find the starting current for.

Have you thought of having an internal fan controller like the Aquero LT (non-LT version can be bay mounted), Heatmaster or MiniNG / BigNG? These offer a wide range of control options as well as temperature, flow and RPM reporting to your OS. They tend to be a little pricy though.

I'd get one of the Lamptrons that take the PWM signal from the motherboard and control non PWM fans. Or I would buy the PWM modable APs mod them to PWM and then buy as many PWM splitters you need. I have seen them in up to 5 channels of course you can make your own.

To make a PWM splitter just wire all the fans 12v to a molex then 1 fans RPM to the RPM wire and all the fans PWM wires to the PWM wire. Most motherboards have 2 PWM CPU headers and 1 or more PWM case fan headers. This way nothing gets hot and you can run the fans at extremely low speeds and when the CPU warms up the fans speed up. It will cost less and will automatically go up only when it needs to which means you can game in peace and if the game starts getting hard on the CPU it will turn up the fans without you having to be monitoring temps and adjusting dials.

That is how I do it.

I don't think those exist. You must be confusing the Sunbeam Rheosmart with Lamptron..
The Lamptron is sort of a fake PWM controller for 3 wire fans, but it does not feed off of the mobo PWM signal.

i have, i rather go with an external controller. then i only need basic readings for the fan speed and temps. then the rest like the pump i can just use the variable speed

also what if i have the dial already set down on the Rheobus, will it still run starting up at that wattage? because i still want to have at least 1 full rad per channel, while still having the features i asked...

Rather than limiting yourself to a white controller, I would look for a good one and just paint it white..

so according to this data you should be looking at a 40 or 50W fan controller. I like PepeLapiu's idea of paintin it white and will second that motion, you want quality first and then take the looks into account. biggrin.gif

Says fan is discontinued in your link.
