I'm probably going to be only putting fan holes in the top and back. Idk, I'm working on a sketchup model as I speak.

Here's what I accomplished today:

I've always liked how the Prodigy and PowerMac/MacPro had the little stands on them, and I decided I wanted to do something like that with this. I needed a way to have the case not sit flat on it's belly, because the idea seemed silly and I needed a good amount of space for intake for the power supply. These are about 2.5 inches high if I remember correctly.
Here's a shot with the motherboard panel, front, and back panels on.

A shot of the front. I'll be making a piece tomorrow to fill the "gap" in its teeth

And one last shot until tomorrow.

Thanks! thumb.gif

Must... steal...

Great job man. Do you plan on staining it? If so, what color? Or are you going to paint it?

It's locked in my school in the middle of a Wisconsin winter, so good luck stealing it lol tongue.gif Thank you! I was originally thinking of just doing polyurethane over the entire thing, but then I saw this thing: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/279362-28-custom-wooden-case
He uses Red Oak as well. I'm not sure what I'm doing yet, I might even make a mahogany stain or walnut or something of the like. Pics in a few!

Wisconsin ftw smile.gif
Snows horrible. We're supposed to get another one tonight. Perfect cover...

And that finish looks nice. But I'd go with a Mahagony finish for yours. Then re-color the interior components to a Coyote Brown...

I'm thinking about a mahogany finish, I'll probably try some examples on scrap pieces. Yay, more snow :I I still have to ride a bike to school lol biggrin.gif

Anywho, UPDATES!! (small, but worthy)

Got the front piece done today:

The front looks a bit ugly right now with the dark coloring, but that will get sanded out during finish sanding. I also went one pass too many on the jointer on the front piece, and it's maybe a millimeter shorter than the side pieces, but it will get blended in during finish sanding as well. I'm not for sure if I'm going to work on this at all tomorrow, as I have school in the way, but I should have a pretty decent sized update on Thurs. I'm also getting some more Red Oak this weekend probably, since the shop teacher said I couldn't have any more solid wood. I still have to make the interior "shelving" and so some Sketchup models. Stay tuned!

Very nice!

I love wooden cases...subbed for sure.
One thing though, you need MOAR fan holes for a loop or a good air cooled rig. 3x120 in the fron or 4x120, and same thing in the top. No need for side or bottom fans (but having fan holes there is nice for rads too) Where are you placing the hdd's? Any sketches you can post?
