Windows + Classic Shell = Epic win.

At my work, I've begun telling customers about it, and everyone who's started using it on Windows 8 that was hesitant, is happy as can be/

Myself and 3 buddies got Windows 8 Pro for 15 bucks each on the promotion and none of us have bothered to do anything with it.

This is one of those product that you gotta give it time, not just a few weeks. But everyone is different, some are good at adapting to new stuff, and some aren't. Who knows, maybe in a year or so, W8 might be a good OS for Desktop.

Same setup on my laptop, though I left my desktop without the start button so I'd get used to navigating with metro's ui. After several months, I still prefer the start button but I'm not hating the metro ui at all.

Needless to say, everyone has their opinion about windows 8's ui, but what you can't deny is that it has improved in a lot of other areas, one being great boot time improvements

I adopted Windows 8 Pro for the sake of comparing the two (7 Ult & 8 Pro) in gaming applications, honestly I have seen performance changes that favor the newer OS, however in regards to simple media playback, I find it awful, initially double clicking any audio file will give you the FULLSCREEN Xbox Music App, not exactly user friendly if you happen to be browsing the web or enjoying a game of FTL. I personally share a love/hate relationship with Windows 8. I can only hope they make further improvements once SP1 rolls out.

And you guys wouldn't be counted in the Steam hardware survey, because it only counts installations that are in use.

We'll see how the trend goes after a few months.

My prediction: Windows 7 will remain the majority until it reaches end of extended support in 2020, like XP did. And then it will switch to whatever is the OS that Microsoft releases at that time.

The best way to deal with that is to uninstall the unwanted Metro apps, so that it defaults to the Windows Media Player and the other default desktop programs. But they do need a way to choose desktop programs as the default during initial setup.

Well, It's not like Win8 adoption numbers are going to decrease. Plus it was actually significant cheaper to buy Win8 for the last several months.
