Bios and Windows not detecting RAM but CPU-Z does

Thread Starter
I have a Rampage II Extreme Motherboard with this kit for some reasos my bios is only detecting 2GB of ram but CPU-Z detects 6GB which is the correct amount.. If i use a certain Slot combination (a1 c2 and c1) all 6GB are read by the bios but the recommended combination (a1 b1 c1) only reads 2GB.

I updated the bios, cleared CMOS and tested A2 B2 C2 and the pc didn't boot. It won't boot at all unless there is a Stick @ A1. If i boot with A1 C1 it reads 4GB but if i use A1 B1 it read 2GB. Seems like my B1 slot is dead because all sticks work @ A1 and C1 but that doesn't explain why CPU-Z can read it while the bios can't.

Check CPU pins and installation. If one pin is slightly off, or CPU cooler is too tight or too loose, it can cause a similar problem.

Cheers

I checked and apparently there is a bent pin. Could this be the reason why my pc has been crashing when i play games or when i do the OCCT Power Supply test? I took my PSU to a professional he tested it and it is completely fine.

I will try to fix the bent pin but in case i can't do you guys think Asus can replace the socket and how much would that cost?

Your issue sounds like a bent pin, which you seem to verify (as suggested by timisyourfriend). The memory controller is on chip, and with the 1366 socket, I've seen this exact issue from bent pins. As for the socket being replaced, ASUS should be able to, and will charge you. A few years ago I remember people stating ASUS charged them around $35 to replace the socket. You should just call and see what they can do. But if the pin isn't bent too bad, you should be able to fix it with a steady hand, a toothpick and some patience.

Good luck!

Take a picture of the socket and post it here. I am curious to see just how bad the pins are bent!
