Last time I checked, everyone is comparing Steam to this new always-on form of DRM on the new Xbox. Steam is being used as a baseline for this entire conversation, correct? What else would you like to compare this to?

I am not surprised by the activation codes tho. The developers have been at war with the used game market for years.

It isn't a matter of if or if I am not always online. It is simply that to require a connection to function is poor form.

There have been times (bad weather) where my cable has gone out so I will play a game that doesn't require an internet connection. If the rumors are true, I wont be able to play any of my games if my internet is out.

I would hope once official information is revealed there would be some work around for these scenarios, as you suggested.

This will be the biggest but slowest price guoge ever! The more control you have of your product after you sold it, the more money you can make from it. They will eventually get rid of HDDs on systems and your game info will be stored on the cloud. You will have to pay to save it. You will have to be connected to use is and pay to be connected. Once they EOL the game, it is unusable. Can't make copies because no actual game info is loaded client side. Can't trade games with your friend. Can't even inherit the used consol from a family member or friend once they upgrade or change systems. Again no used games. And since you're only option is a brand new game. The games will be sold at a premium. Because it will be a slow bleed, people will pay these premiums, but the games will be horrible in quality. There will be no updates to broken games. Just premium money for more DLC. They might start including patches with DLC and people might pay for that. Then once that becomes the norm, they will release patches alone at a price.

The whole reason that the game industry became the biggest booming market and the most tech advancing field is because of all the competition. People could go buy games used. People would trade games. Developers had to compete for consumer interest. With the future consoles, there is no competition. (yes there is slight competition) but not like their used to be. It's always dangerous when any product gets to be a all or nothing type industry. For example, Cable. They can continue to raise prices...where else are you going to go for internet? The other guy who is charging more? No competition, and the customers don't have the patience to go without in order to force better prices and services. We are going to have 2 consoles that will basically be all or nothing. They both have the same hated features so you can't avoid always on DRM, no used games, etc. But people are too easily satiated. No one will do anything about it. In fact there is a whole thread where people are up in arms because someone is trying to do something about it. Their main reason for LOVING the current state of market is because they think they get deals on these unfinished broken games lachen.gif

This is already happening on the PS3. But altleast PSN is free Xbox Live is not.

More reason for Valve to lose the used software sales thing in Europe. Then this Xbox won't be allowed to be sold here with such a feature.

And the always on thing is just horse manure. Why does that need to be required? To enforce the used game sales no doubt. Pathetic.

Old news really. It's not satisfying at all... but we pretty much already knew this.

It was a response to your post, and I never said you said anything about Steam. It was a general consensus centering around the entire thread. Also, you did not answer the question I posed to you.

Well I didn't consider my response to be part of the general consensus, thanks for volunteering me to be a part of that biggrin.gif
