Same here.. I sold my last console in 2006 and I hadn't played it since 2003. When I had an xbox live account (not to be confused with my GFWL account) it cost like 60 or 80 dollars a YEAR.

I do like this move though, seems more and more consoles are becoming glorified prebuilt computers. Which is good for the non technical person but for us its still a no go.

I'm hoping these rumors are untrue. But at the same time I somewhat support the idea. Microsoft and other publishers make no money from used game sales. Gamestop can resell a game disc over and over making a 10%+ profit each time. I'd much rather see those profits going back to the publishers, game studios and developers.

On consoles you will be changing every 5 years and have to use a different machine to play new games and old one to play old ones, assuming they keep the online function active for older consoles.

Says who, where is your proof of that?

How do you know this wont be a step towards a more steam like setup where all of the games you purchase this gen are linked to your Gamertag, and next gen they are still available...

The question becomes who deserves the money on used games, the devs or the retailers. Honestly the fact is that the retailers are the ones paying for store space, interacting with customers etc. I don't know if msoft and sony can really ban used games, I feel like legally it's a grey area. It would be like monopoly saying you can't resell the board game after buying it. After you've purchased something, I personally believe it is entirely up to your discretion how to use it or what to do with it so long as you aren't illegally distributing it. Not to mention that if sony and microsoft were to do something like this I can see retailers causing all kinds of issues over it. In the end, microsoft and sony depend on retailers to get their products to users, so trying to steal their used game sales could be a catalyst for some court hearings.

I agree with you, this is just a regurgitation of previous rumors of more than a year ago. We have no new info regarding services.

Well Afghanistan will be ending soon

They do have internet connections overseas

And deployed soldiers are not exactly their sales group

Also its not really a lot considering most of them would have a console at home and over seas they would share one between a group of soldiers..

All this would be for us is a media/blu-ray device. Nothing more and doubt PC gamers would even buy games. Honestly, its a good thing. Gamestop is pretty evil anyways.

No, it doesn't.

I start my computer at the school without internet (although it detects the RADIUS protected Wi-Fi AP and attempts to connect to it), and Steam gives me the option of 'start in offline mode'.

Steam doesn't give you the option of starting in offline mode but instead it allows you to put steam in offline mode. A difference wink.gif.Unless if I am mistaken, you still require an internet connection just to connect to your steam account and then you can go offline.
