With 1.3V or more, you can probably get 1300MHz+ so I don't see why you should worry about ASIC quality :-).

Default voltage is high at 1.25v and I only have .05v to work with for pushing this card for over clocking. The BIOS is voltage locked at 1.3v.

.05v is not enough to push this card to its limits. The VRM cooling is really good and its probably because the card is semi locked to keep the card from over clocking.

I bought this card to have fun over clocking.

The combination failing ASIC score and poor BIOS doesn't give me any room for the kind of satisfaction that I paid for.

Also I was going to water cool this card as well but the Poor ASIC score and extremely limiting .25v voltage allowance doesn't give me any options.

This card is awesomely built in power phase design. 57% ASIC score GPU at the heart of it is a total waste for this card. Add the semi-locked BIOS that doesn't help over clock the card its lose-lose for me.

Another thing is the ELPIDA memory sucks. Max over clock on the memory is around 1500mhz. Terrible. If I had the HYNIX memory I'm sure I could get to at least 1800mhz.

The more research I do on this card on message boards the more I see people complaining about similar problems.

I hope a miracle BIOS is enough to fix my card but right now I feel like throwing in the towel with this card and getting a refund.

Of course I will. I have read many posts over at the Sapphire Forums with people complaining about the BIOS and to date I don't think Sapphire has figured out the problem so I don't have alot of faith in a quick fix within a week but if Sapphire can get something out within week that makes my card work great I will hook you all up for sure. Nothing to hide. I'm sure Sapphire doesn't like their customers not satisfied.

I believe I have a similar 7950 Vapor X, I can't push the voltage past 1.3 for VDDC and the memory is 1.6. Highest clock I can achieve with forced constant is 1200/1400 and without 1150/1350.
A little disappointed, however, it is a mighty fine overclock over stock.

VApor X HD7950 with poor ASIC score.
Default voltage under load is very high at 1.25v. For over clocking it the BIOS will only give me .05v extra voltage to go any faster and it doesn't get very fast. Definitely not a 1300mhz card... Maybe a different BIOS would allow for more voltage to go faster to be stable at 1300mhz or higher but from what I am seeing this card is not a high end performing card like it is marketed to be. VRMS don't get hot on this card and I think the BIOS is limiting the VRM power out put.

On the other hand my Sapphire 950mhz Ediiton with ASIC score of 89% will do 1300mhz with 1.22v stable and and the VRMs do get hotter but the BIOS on this card is geared for over clocking.

Are you kidding? What are you comparing it with? Almost regardless of what other 7950-card you are comparing it to, a final OC of 1200MHz on core is nothing but really good.
Sure, you can be lucky and get a really, really good batch and put it on watercooling, but that is another thing.

I think an OC from stock boost-bios of 950MHz to 1200MHz is pretty damn good. That is a 350MHz of OC. How can that not be good?
Compare it to referencestandard of AMD, that is 800MHz on the 7950. 800 to 1200 is 400MHz of OC.

I am so curious about how you are thinking, so i had to register, and drag you back to earth. tongue.gif

I am new here, but i am not a newbie to overclocking.

Oh, i almost forgot, i also have this card. Maxed oc @ 1250 / 1600 with ASIC @ 59.1%. That sucks? rolleyes.gif

This ASIC, are for me, just bull****. Who really cares if the card is stable at 1.1v or 1.25v? The cooler on this card can obviously handle the heat. My VRMs never go over 80°c, not even under loading with Furmark and with fan speed maxing out at 44%.

When this card dies, regardless if it has been running at 1.1v or 1.25v on the core, we will have the 9000-series something anyway and it is time to upgrade.
Its the same bull**** with overclocking our CPUs, who really cares if the lifetime on (for example) the i5 going 1.1v or 1.35v? It will still go many, many years, regardless of the voltage. As long as the temperatures are in a good range.

It's almost impossible to compare one card to another, the same goes for CPUs. On CPU can reach that and that on that voltage. But the next CPU cannot even reach that on a much higher voltage.
350-450MHz of OC are very good, very few people can deny that.

Also, i would like to apologize for bad spelling and so on. I am from Sweden, so i blame it on that. smile.gif

ASIC quality 67.5%. Also with AB (MSI afterburner) I achieved a stable 1150/1400 overclock without forced constant voltage. It seems though the memory voltage is still locked 1.6v

I am crossing fire my 2 HD7950 Vapor X (Boosted at 950MHz), can anyone me tell me that is it not necessary for me to OC my both cards to say 1100/1600?

3dMark11 score with 1250/1500. My Elpida memory sucks at over clocking. I really think the BIOS is the problem with the Vapor X.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6645644

I'm comparing it to my SApphire 950mhz edition which is much more faster in terms of GPU and memory over clocking.

My BIOS ends in (113-210PBBBG-V07).

I recently water cooled my VApor X HD7950 and it is crashing for now reason going from 3D to 2D. I am running the latest Beta bios. I thought AMD had fixed these kind of bugs in the drivers. Irritated that sapphire can't put out a decent BIOS for this card and that AMD drivers are not working very well.

Vapor X HD7950 water cooled is beast in hardware and operating temps but the software side is very buggy. frown.gif

I am experimenting with this for over clocking. Not sure if it is working right but I managed to get my voltage to stick to around 1.3v under load.

Does somebody know where the voltage measurement point it on this video card? I want to measure voltage with a voltmeter.
